ashton & michael are married!

one year and seven months ago we met ashton & michael. we were shooting nicole & david’s wedding and michael was a groomsman- ‘the one with the sweet girlfriend’ as we remember him. since then ashton & michael have gotten engaged, gotten a sweet puppy, finished law school and are both working as lawyers in atlanta. since then matt & i have…let’s just say we’re impressed by these two go-getters! ;) individually they are talented, passionate people and together they are an absolute force! but what you notice first about them isn’t their brilliance (although that’s quite obvious, too)- it’s the kind and honest way they connect with those around them. as we captured their day we noticed that every single person smiled ear to ear the minute they caught sight of ashton & michael- their friends and family were clearly so happy to see the two of them together. it was a sweet, relaxed day of celebration and love- perfect!

after the ceremony ashton & michael slipped away with us to wander around (and through!) the nearby gardens- we’re so glad they did! :)

ashton & michael, thank you again and again for including us in such a beautiful day! we wish you guys the best!

rebecca & harris are married!

rebecca & harris’s wedding day was a dream come true- for them and for us! everything about their day was carefully conceived and perfectly orchestrated to create an environment where everyone from the grandparents to the flower girl felt loved and personally cared for by rebecca & harris, themselves. i could hardly believe the amount of energy and life rebecca & harris were able to share on their wedding day- it was as if they were energized just by being around those they love most. :) actually, when i think of their wedding day, the picture in my head is exactly that- a circle of love and laughter and passion passed between rebecca and harris and to their guests and back again- does that even make any sense? do you know anyone like that who just exudes the joy of being alive so much that you catch it and get caught up in it with them? that’s rebecca. AND harris. you guys, they are BOTH that special type of person and together they are such a beautiful couple! spending the day capturing these two felt like such a gift- beautiful moments were all around us and we left their wedding with joy in our hearts. :) but, i’m getting ahead of myself again- images! please just look!

just STUNNING:

my favorite! well, i may say that about a few others later… ;)

just before the ceremony, in the midst of a few quick portraits, the vocalists began to warm up. the moment rebecca heard the first few notes of the song she arranged for them, her eyes filled up and she ran to where they could see her to let them know how beautiful they sounded. it was a beautiful moment and perfectly represents rebecca’s passion for living every little moment. :)

meanwhile, harris and his friends and family were relaxing in the barn- swapping stories and generally enjoying the most perfect day:

i love this next image matt captured of the ladies making their way to the ceremony site- seriously every moment of the day happened exactly as planned but in the most natural and effortless way! between rebecca’s planning and the impeccable coordination of nicole from verge events, there was never a lost moment.

rebecca’s sister was her maid of honor and, though most maids of honor are excellent the day-of, i just have to give credit where credit is due: casey’s every moment was filled with looking around to see what she could do to make rebecca’s day more comfortable, smooth and stress-free. it’s so sweet to see sisters who are such wonderful friends:

rebecca & harris’s wedding day was held at the very beautiful farm at old edward’s inn in highlands, north carolina. the property was such a treat to explore and we really felt like every corner we turned led us to a beautiful little vignette that we just had to make into a portrait! i hope we find our way back there soon!

ok, actually, this one may be my favorite:

this one is my other favorite:

rebecca & harris, congratulations! we are so happy to see two such wonderful people together forever! :) we wish you the very best!

last month, matt & i had the pleasure of piling into a car with a couple of our friends from college and road-tripping up to DC for a little reunion with these two. the last time i was in DC i was however old you are when you’re in 8th grade- needless to say, it was time for a grown-up trip! we had a great time biking all over the city and reliving so much history with close friends. we didn’t actually take many pictures at all- we were so busy taking it all in ourselves! but, here are a few of our favorites from the ones we did take, starting with an image that was brazenly illegal (there were signs everywhere)- can matt get arrested if the secret service reads this blog post? if so, i’m totally kidding, folks!!

we planned our trip around the famous cherry blossoms- only to have them bud, bloom & fall a month early this year. BUT! we found this lone, beautiful tree and took full advantage, tourist-style:

we rode these bikes from sun-up to sun-down and into the late-night, it was so easy to get around (and only sometimes totally dangerous!)!

clearly, matt chooses the images for blog posts. i have GOT to start taking better pics of him so that we start to approach 50/50 blog visibility.

check it out! no more boot! still not back to running but thank goodness i didn’t have to wear that boot around dc- that would have been way dangerous on those bikes… also, this shop i’m standing across from was my favorite little spot in alexandria- the hour– stop in if you’re ever in the area!

there maaay not have been any cherry blossoms at this year’s cherry blossom festival but there were still fireworks on the river! and we do NOT miss fireworks. :)

sometimes the bike lanes were in the middle of traffic! awesome views. terrifying whenever we needed to turn. overall, win.

we love DC!
