kelsey & tyler are married!

kelsey & tyler are two of the most fun and loving and funloving people we’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing. they have such a good time together and the minute you meet them you realize that they are best friends. they have traveled all over the world and have shared some truly amazing experiences. now they can add their wedding day to that list- because it was a seriously awesome celebration! their friends and family were all so encouraging and excited for them- it really felt like every second held it’s own beautiful, personal little moment which is why this post contains waaaay more pictures than usual. sorry!

everyone got ready in lovely rooms in the renaissance hotel overlooking the biltmore– where the wedding and reception would take place- what a sweet detail!

kelsey’s little brother walked in to see her while she was getting ready- they shared such a sweet moment- it’s clear these two are close:

meanwhile, tyler was busy finalizing his vows:

kelsey’s dad met her downstairs before she went up to meet tyler- they embraced and talked each other out of crying. ;)

remember that view from kelsey’s hotel room? here it is again! matt has had this shot in his mind for quite a while and kelsey & tyler were the perfect couple for it! a pretty epic image resulted- i love it:

while the guests enjoyed cocktail hour, the ceremony site was flipped and magically became a beautiful reception! this is one of my favorite room shots in the history of altmix photography, inc.:

the bridesmaids surprised kelsey with a song they had written especially for her and tyler:

these images make me laugh- stretching before beginning their first dance:

kelsey & tyler, we feel so blessed to have been a part of your wedding day- thank you so much for including us and trusting us to capture such a beautiful event! we wish you the very best and we can’t wait to see pictures from your incredible honeymoon tour! :)

katie & nikhil are married!

on the way home from katie & nikhil’s rehearsal dinner, matt & i wondered how in the world they were going to have a wedding to top such a perfect evening. we worried a little for them but the minute i showed up to katie’s room the next morning i realized exactly how incredible their wedding day was going to be- no need to worry at all! katie greeted me the way she greeted everyone who walked through her door- with a radiant smile that was almost a laugh she was so full of joy. her bridesmaids took their time getting ready, alternating chatting with katie over a glass of champagne with mascara and lipstick. the enviornment was light and fun and katie was the life of every moment- her makeup artist even had to request that she disengage for just a second while he perfected her lips! :) nothing phases katie- whenever something that she needed to do or remember popped into her mind she would immediatly pass it along to the bridesmaid or family member most suited to helping her with that little detail. she responds passionately and quickly and doesn’t dwell on anything that would keep her from enjoying every second of the day. as someone who internalizes everything and is prone to worry, i really have so much respect for katie and it was so refreshing to spend the day capturing her! once she and nikhil met up the day was just a whirlwind of energy and fun for everyone. even regular visitors who were exploring the gardens where katie & nikhil were married were swept up in the celebration- cheering for them and calling their congratulations as we explored the grounds for a few couple portraits before the ceremony. what a wonderful day it was!

it’s so dreamy to get married in a garden! but there are some little bugs…and katie saved nikhil from one during their vows: ;)

just after their ceremony, nikhil’s immediate family offered their love and blessings to the new couple in the traditional way- such a sweet, intimate time:

katie & nikhil snuck away for a few more portraits after the ceremony but really it was more of a time of celebration and fun- for all of us!

the party was awesome- the ever fabulous, eliana, did her thing while dj jaz did a fantastic job mixing traditional indian songs with radio favorites:

katie & nikhil, thank you both so much for inviting us into your celebration and allowing us to capture such a beautiful weekend. we wish you the very best!

katie & nikhil: the sangeet

matt & i love taking pictures that capture the life of a moment- dancing, laughing, crying, hugging- all of these things are such a huge part of our memories from different events throughout our own life and it’s so important to us that we capture those moments for our couples. there is, however, one moment we do not often capture- something we feel can really be left alone. it’s a moment where we turn the camera away or back out to shoot big, full shots of the whole room. what i’m talking about is, of course, the moment you put a bite of food in your mouth. :)

for this reason, matt & i rarely find ourselves at rehearsal dinners. they are such a great time to enjoy a beautiful meal with those closest to you and for that reason we do love to capture the evening, but in general, it’s a lot of people…eating. ;) but of course there are exceptions! we’ve been to some incredible rehearsal dinners over the past few years- ones with toasts that brought us to tears and allowed us to capture special, intimate moments that rarely can happen when all of the guests are around on the wedding day. we’ve been to cocktail party rehearsal dinners where guests lounged poolside while henna was applied to their hands by skilled artists. we’ve seen poetry and musical performances and once even a standup comedian entertained the guests! these are the rehearsal dinners where we find ourselves there- and we are delighted to capture it all.

but i think we now have a new standard for how awesome a rehearsal dinner can be- katie & nikhil threw a party to remember the night before their wedding and we were lucky enough to be there to capture it all. based on the traditional indian sangeet, their evening consisted of lots of laughter and partying followed by an incredible dance performance and ended with two solid hours of EVERYONE dancing as hard as they could. we feel so honored to have been included in such an intimate and intense celebration! in case you were curious, THIS is how you throw the rehearsal dinner of the year:  :)

wedding to follow…soon! :)
