the race!

last fall, after a summer of intermittent running and consistant snacking, matt and i decided it was time to sign up for a race. we needed motivation, so we talked my little brother dan and our friend steve into the idea of doing a destination run somewhere beautiful. thanks to google, we ended up flying into denver and enjoying one of the most beautiful drives ever out to moab, utah for their annual canyonlands half. the air was thin and the wind periodically kicked up puffs of red dust but the course was flat and and beautiful and matt, dan and steve all finished strong! (well, once matt regained his full vision- he maaaay have pushed himself a too hard, typical;)) having fractured my foot in late january and experiencing some complications (read: misdiagnosises), i was unable to race and instead cheered everyone on and walked around the town in my stylin medical boot. we saw some truly breathtaking landscapes and spent a couple of days falling in love with a part of the country we don’t know very well- all in all a great trip. here are a few images from the weekend:

(ps. all these images were taken on our x100, one of matt’s favorite toys ;)

steve, matt and dan, post race.

nighttime in the desert, so quiet and still and endless and beautiful. the absence of sound here was stunning.

clearly, we rolled straight out of bed and into the car for our drive back to denver but you guys, SNOW!! i touched it! the guys threw it at each other! it was like the real winter we never had this year in atlanta! i love snow so much. :)

our trip to denver would not have been complete without stopping at one of our favorite breweries, great divide. excellent experience:

we could have easily spent another month exploring denver- hopefully we’ll find a reason to return soon!

crystal & daniel are married!

crystal & daniel are best friends. they’ve seen each other through so many of life’s twists and turns and, as friends, they encouraged one another through everything. they share a passion for intentional community and seeing them surrounded by so many close friends on their wedding day made obvious how important they are in the lives of so many. but crystal & daniel don’t just share a deep love for their friends and family, they also share a passion and determination to help the less fortunate all over the world. it was through serving and sharing this passion that they fell in love. currently, they are both working with nonprofits, impacting the world around them with an incredible amount of energy and love. together, they are a powerful force of good- bringing happiness and healing to whoever is blessed to meet them. crystal & daniel are two people who share one heart. for us, spending a day with them and listening to their friends and family speak about their selflessness and dedication to making our world a better place, was such a blessing and such a joy to capture. here are a few of our favorite images from their day:

crystal & daniel allotted plenty of time for portraits after their ceremony- we loved it! :) we drove to several locations and explored a variety of landscapes:

FAVORITE:

reception time!

while crystal’s dad gave his speech, daniel’s dad translated his words into english- it was a happy but emotional time for everyone and seeing the friendship between their two families was so sweet:

crystal & daniel, we feel so blessed to have been a part of such a beautiful celebration and the beginning of your new life together, thank you. we wish you the very best!

kristen & jordan are married!

By | Weddings | 2 Comments

very often matt and i are asked how we like working together, all day, every single day. ;) of course, we wouldn’t have it any other way but it wasn’t always as natural as it is now. working closely on the same projects tends to bring out a little stubbornness in me and, i’ll be honest, a little OCD sometimes too. i want everything the way i picture it and matt feels the exact same way. over the years we’ve had to verbalize to one another what the other’s strengths are and learn to separate our work based on trusting those strengths in each other. it’s not always easy!

having experienced how difficult this can be, we have so much respect for couples who work together. and even more respect for couples who fell in love while working together! actually, kristen & jordan maaay be the only couple we know who has fallen in love while working together. and they weren’t just working at the same company passing in the halls. kristen was a stage manager and producer for many different types of productions at emory while jordan designed the lighting. i imagine this is like matt being in charge of the sun while i’m trying to make the perfect picture- and i’m pretty sure that would actually be way more difficult than what we currently do together. ;) anyway, kristen and jordan became close friends and after a couple of years, went on their first date. it was instantly obvious to kristen & jordan [and everyone around them] that they were meant to be together. i agree! :)

kristen’s dad’s reaction to seeing her for the first time on her wedding day was so sweet:

jordan’s reaction was pretty sweet too! ;)

we took some time for a few couple portraits in their ceremony space before we headed out to explore the grounds around the miller-ward alumni house. i love the uniform frames on these walls- it gives the images such a nice structure!

kristen is just gorgeous! i love the natural beauty in this image:

before we knew it the seats had filled up and it was time for the ceremony.

kristen & jordan had filled the surfaces of the alumni house with images of their relationship as well as their friends and families. as the guests mingled during cocktail hour, they often picked up a frame to look more closely and relive a special time in their own life that they shared with kristen or jordan. it was such a sweet way to bring people together and by the time the reception was to begin it seemed like everyone felt like one big happy family!

meanwhile, the bridesmaids snuck away to be introduced. the holding room:  ;)

kristen & jordan’s friends and family toasted them with poignant, funny and/or embarrassing stories- it was a fun time of remembrance for all:

kristen & jordan, thank you guys so much for having us- we loved capturing you two together surrounded by those who love you the most. we wish you the very best!
