hannah & steve are engaged!

By | Engagement Sessions | 6 Comments

steve lived pretty much next door to me for a couple years in college so when he sent me a message that he was engaged and i saw we were booked for his wedding i was bummed- to say the least. because, you see, steve is a unique person- he was always off to work out or study or play sports but always with a surprisingly calm demeanor. even though he seemed pretty scheduled i never saw him stressed- he was always quick to laugh at his crazy roommate or just smile and say hello as we passed in the parking lot. that, my friends, makes for a special person- and i knew any girl that could keep up with him must be amazing too.

dead on! meeting hannah we could immediately see that she and steve ‘clicked.’ if you think that sounds cheesy you should hang out with them and come up with a better way to explain it. ;) they compliment each other in every way and easily made one another smile and laugh. couples like hannah & steve make us so happy! it was also really great that they totally trusted our instincts and were willing to venture anywhere to get ‘the’ shot. but more on that later, for now, the lovely, hannah & steve:

see this is what i was saying! they’re just adorable together!

a beautiful serious one, such a calm image:

just workin’ the architecture :)

so when i mentioned they were willing to go anywhere…one of those places was the roof! and not just the roof, we had them standing on a bench at the edge of the roof so we could just get pretty sky and not roof grossness in this image- they look so peaceful for the position they are in!

the next place was a secret indoor location- we will not disclose it because we do not want to openly admit to what MIGHT have been trespassing…

this is one of the last images we grabbed before we headed back to the cars. i love seeing couples laugh together- it just helps me to see how much fun they will have together forever!

angelyn & michael are married!

By | Weddings | 11 Comments

last saturday we had the pleasure of capturing angelyn & michael’s wedding. everything came together in a beautiful way- from the smiles to the tears to the bright sun overhead, everything was perfect. the ladies started the day with a sweet bridal brunch- sharing memories over fresh waffles topped with blueberry syrup, whipped cream and chopped pecans. they enjoyed their brunch on angelyn’s family’s china- cut their waffles with the family flatware and sipped ina garten’s punch from family glassware. it was a perfectly relaxed way to start her wedding day- surrounded by friends, family and whipped cream- her favorite. :)

when it came time to start getting ready everyone’s energy level seemed to boost- i guess after enjoying those waffles the sugar was bound to start setting in! between curling irons, hairspray and lip gloss the ladies were ready in no time- seriously, i was impressed at how quickly everyone was ready to jump in a car and head to the church!

then it was time to get dressed. angelyn’s grandmother carefully fastened her pearls around her neck as proud as any grandmother ever has been!

while the ladies finished up- matt had the guys outside exploring the grounds of the church for a few portraits, we liked this one the best:

i love this image of angelyn between her two grandmothers:

the time to walk down the aisle came quickly- here, angelyn and her dad pause just before they started their walk:

we were so excited that angelyn & michael made time for a few creative/relaxed portraits with us after the ceremony! we took a few strides across the parking lot and found a perfect little patch of grass to work with. here are a few of our faves:

then it was back inside for the reception! they started things off with a slideshow of images of them since birth- which usually means for lots of laughter! as the slideshow neared the time when angelyn & michael met it was sweet to see the happiness on the faces of the guests- clearly everyone was proud to be there, supporting their marriage. here is michael’s mom during the slideshow:

one of michael’s groomsmen during the blessing for the food:

toasts were given in honor of the couple and this moment was one of our faves:

after everyone had eaten angelyn and michael greeted each of their guests- catching up with old friends and hugging family members they had not seen in quite a while.

when it was nearing time for angelyn & michael to leave, the guests took handfuls of dried lavender from metal pails to toss as the new couple made their way to their car. they drove off in a storm of lavender and as the scent lingered in the air so did the grins of their guests.

IT IS SPRING TODAY! …i say ‘today’ because earlier this week we were experiencing snow flurries in the ATL and i don’t want to get ahead of myself and say SPRING HAS ARRIVED. i just don’t want to jinx anything, you understand.

anyway, today it is beautiful- sunny & 70 with a light breeze. i could live this day over and over and wake up smiling every morning. i hear this means we should really just pack up and move to california…but that conversation is for another day…

at the moment, matt and i are getting some work done in a little coffee shop in greenville, SC, waiting for lauren’s bridal shoot to start later this afternoon. my inbox is down to THREE and i’m taking a moment to clean up my desktop. messy desktops make matt crazy so i’m doing this for him. i really couldn’t care less if images i’ve pulled of pretty flowers and crafts i’d like to try are not in their correct folders but matt does. i’m a much better person because of him!

so as i was organizing and tossing lots into the trash when i cam across NYC pictures from earlier this month and started experimenting with them in photoshop. matt and i get a lot of questions about our editing and to answer the questions all at once i just have to say it’s all trial and error! we’re always experimenting with our personal pictures with different tweaks and only when we’ve created a ‘look’ that passes the test on our personal pictures, do we add it to our wedding actions list!

first up, from the plane on the way in! i was so busy taking a picture with the phone that i almost missed grabbing one with the real camera! obviously, i take seriously being able to update with quality twitpics! the bizarre vignette here is actually just the edge of the window not some crazy new action we’re going to apply to your bridal portraits ;)

cal, matt’s roommate from college, took us through the area where he usually runs around the reservoir. what beautiful scenery he sees when he runs! makes me almost want to run there too! or at least walk like i mean it…

02_new_york

to have taken this image means that matt had already squeezed through this chained fence. i thought the chains meant stay out- apparently what they actually meant was please come in! i introduce you to cal:

03_new_york

i spent most of the trip with not just my bangs, but the entirety of my head of hair, in my eyes. and mouth. this made sipping cappuccino not the easiest thing but i pushed through that obstacle. THIS is the photo i was trying to send here.

while the brooklyn bridge is stunning, i love the manhattan bridge that runs beside it. the detail is beautiful and i love the greenish/blue color!

05_new_york

look left from the manhattan- the brooklyn bridge! photography heaven. this next shot is my favorite. and the one after that is matt’s. funny, we got shots without this wall in the foreground but these ended up being our faves. i think because just getting a small peek of such a majestic bridge allows the eye to really focus on the details of it. or maybe it’s because the ones without the wall had lame cars and construction in them…

a little banksy perhaps!? and again, the ever-present WIND.

08_new_york

all the single ladies!

09_new_york

this next one matt is making me post because he said it looks like it’s from the shining or something. i think it’s just a sad picture of me realizing my feet are going to KILL me in the morning.

cal, thanks for sharing your life with us for a few days, it’s always great to see you!
