marshawn & jason are engaged!

By | Engagement Sessions | 19 Comments

we first met marshawn over coffee- well actually she had a soy chai latte with honey and i had a smoothie. i think this tells you a LOT about each of us. ;) marshawn is one of those people that the second you meet her, you know she’s a powerhouse. and brilliant. and beautiful. seriously, she’s just as amazing (intimidating) as she sounds. ;) so i just sipped my purple smoothie and listened as she told us about her amazing best friend and fiance, jason. i left already in love with their relationship, their wedding plans and the new family they were going to be together. neither matt nor i could wait to meet jason- on friday we finally did.

we planned to meet in decatur so we could scope out a new location (i feel like i’ve been saying that a LOT recently…?) and when marshawn and jason arrived it was ON. jason instantly lived up to everything marshawn had told us about him- he’s funny, spontaneous, crazy- the list goes on- but most of all he is HEAD OVER HEELS for his lady. together, they bring out the best in one another, their smiles and laughs are contagious- more than one person on the street stopped to comment on how perfect they are and wish them the best. i hope these pictures portray even half of all i’ve just described!

throughout the shoot, marshawn and jason were so playful- dancing, picking each other up, goofing off- they even showed us their own personal handshake! (*we NEED one of those, babe!*) it was wonderful to work with a couple who plays together- there was never a dull moment and we were able to capture some of the sweetest looks!

this shot seems to have an old world feeling about it to me- black and white was a MUST!
03_atlanta_photography_032009

i see STUNNING children in their future! during the shoot, jason was joking about having lots of kids…i think society would be ok with that!! :)

these big, old trees were filtering the light in such a beautiful way and created such a nice frame for them:

i LOVE how sweet and protective this next image is:

matt deserves full credit for this next image- the direct composition and the unique crop is totally his style. love this!

seriously, sweetest couple ever:

as the sun set we grabbed a few more on the way back to the cars. i love the warmth of these last two:

forehead kisses are one of my favorite things to photograph- no idea why, i just think they are adorable!

lena & elliot are engaged!

when we first met lena & elliot we were planning on shooting their wedding and we were so excited! but shortly after our meeting, lena was offered an amazing job and with that came a wedding date switch- we were so bummed to find ourselves unavailable!

…but ANYWAY, lena & elliot rock! and they’re hilarious! and really, it bares repeating- HILARIOUS. seriously, we could hardly keep up with them. elliot had ideas for different shots faster than we could even shoot. LITERALLY. their energy is quite contagious but also just really impressive. we explored midtown for this shoot and found quite a variety of locations in an area not much larger than one block- it was a great afternoon of laughs, pretty light, and sky scrapers!

here are a few of our faves:

all of the fountains in georgia are dry because of the drought plaguing the area so we took full advantage! they jumped right in this fountain in an office park for a few shots- it didn’t last long before the security guard came out and informed us they were receiving complaints…COME ON PEOPLE. they are adorable! and HAPPY! or maybe that was the issue…

01atlanta_engagement_031809

FINE. we’ll sit on the edge of the fountain! …aaand we were still asked to leave. it was ok, we moved on to bigger & better locations! :)

02atlanta_engagement_031809

found a patch of grass big enough to shoot a few sweet little cuddly pictures! as much as they look serious and restful here they were actually totally cracking each other up- tickling, poking, pushing and laughing! :)

gotta love a little architecture! the light was coming through perfectly and when elliot jumped up there we knew they were going to make it awesome- which they promptly did:

then it was on to the parking deck…? matt’s been pushing parking deck shots for quite a while now and we finally found a deck we liked with pretty light and a couple that we realized was going to be completely fine and comfortable no matter if they were in a beautiful wheat field or a parking lot. the conditions were perfect! ;) love the way these next five came out- obviously we’ll be taking full advantage of parking decks in the future!

we were done with the shoot and walking back to our cars when we passed this location and had to stop and take advantage of it! the light was gleaming off the building and they were kind enough to humor us for a few more shots!

lena & elliot, thank you guys so much for a great afternoon! we had a blast getting to know you guys as a couple- you’re clearly going to never run out of fun to have! look forward to seeing you guys again soon!

jaynah & andrew are having a baby!

fall of matt’s freshman year at UGA, he and a few buddies went on a climbing trip. one of the guys brought a camera and, after the trip, burned a disk of the images for each of the guys who went. that guy was andrew. a few months later it was christmas and two other guys from that trip -so impacted by the awesome pictures that andrew took- got cameras themselves. one of those guys was matt. andrew and matt became roommates for the next three years and shared not only many friends, meals and laughs- but also a love for photography.

andrew and his lovely wife, jaynah, got married a few years before we did. they settled into an adorable home in augusta and we watched them start thinking about a family while slowly replacing each of their cars with larger capacity vehicles and then, joyously, find out they were having a little baby girl! we are so grateful for their friendship and transparency- we’ve learned a lot about life and love and marriage from the time we have spent with them.

that being said we were thrilled when they asked us about pregnancy pictures! though we’d never even attempted to capture a couple in this pivotal stage of life we knew that with andrew & jaynah we wouldn’t be able to help but get great shots! so we said yes. and i am so glad we did! first of all- jaynah totally has one of those adorable little pregnant bellies that is so fun to photograph and second- andrew can’t help but grin whenever he sees it. easy for us, huh!?  :)

i could talk all day about these two but no doubt you’re really here for the pictures. ;)

first up! a family portrait with their adorable little watchdog, daisy:

this shot just makes me think they are going to be awesome parents- so in love, so happy and just comfortable together:

02_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

jaynah = BEAUTIFUL

03_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

i knew when this image was taken that i wanted it to be black & white- removing the color helps bring the focus to jaynah when, in color, the bright yellows in their hair and on andrew’s face and shirt were really distracting from her beautiful expression. i love the way it turned out!

04_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

the man himself. a picture of strength and stability. ;)

05_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

look at that little watchdog! he’s going to be so protective of that baby girl!

06_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

a little sweetness:

07_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

jaynah is used to andrew taking (LOTS OF) pictures of her so i was able to empathize with her on that. BUT it seems she’s embraced it and learned to rock the camera!

08_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

these dead vines are strange, i admit. i also admit that it was my idea to shoot there. so, take it or leave it, a shot in dead vines:

09_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

there’s a lovely white wall near our apartment that we discovered when we shot our snow pictures a few weeks ago so we were excited to take some portraits there! i love how simple and clean these images are! almost like a studio but with the softness of natural lighting. plus their expressions are just so sweet- i think any of these would be stunning as a gallery wrap!

11_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

matt’s favorite picture of the day, LOVE jaynah looking straight into the lens:

10_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

and this is my favorite! jaynah’s just so cute & little and andrew’s so dominate & protective:

12_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809

i love the way the white wall emphasizes her shape! and the brick here- glad we included that in a few, it’s a nice texture:

13_atlanta_maternity_photography_030809
jaynah & andrew, thank you so much for allowing us to capture your family! we are so blessed to have you as friends. you two are so perfect together- we can’t wait to see you become parents! little peyton doesn’t even know how lucky she is!!
