sara & george are engaged!

when i first met skay* she was couch surfing to avoid living in her freshman dorm. she had tossed clothes, books and sketch pads in a bag and was basically living in the apartment downstairs. we became inseparable fast and when a 1/2 room opened up in our place she was the first one called. we spent the next two years watching the zillions of movies her grandfather mailed us- sprawled out on the floor, hands covered in charcoal, bagel bites and art projects creating a disaster that only we could create. it was awesome.

i met george right around the same time i met skay. he played guitar with some of my best friends and when skay moved into my place george moved into a house up the street. we spent many nights half-working/half-watching reality tv- mostly just laughing and relaxing and enjoying life.

just after i graduated and matt and i got married we went back up to athens to visit and found skay and george attached at the hip. they were planning a trip to new york together and, as i heard from other friends, you never saw one without the other. they swore they were best friends and nothing more- and not one of us believed them. finally, after months of rumors, george grabbed her hand and they realized what the rest of us had already seen- that they were made for each other. is there a more perfect way to start a relationship!?

when we found out they were getting married we were beyond excited! they wanted to get married within the year and they wanted to elope. YES. ELOPE. remember how i said they planned a trip to new york together? well, they started dating right after they bought their tickets and ended up having a blast up there together so what more appropriate than a city hall wedding in the heart of nyc? it started as a joke but shortly they realized that, really, nothing was more perfect for them than a small nyc wedding, so that’s what’s going down. they’ll get married this fall with just their immediate families present- and matt & me of course! like we’d let them work with anyone else!- and it’s going to be amazing. TOTALLY their style. surrounded by families that are already great friends and in the magical city they both love- is there a more perfect way to kick off the rest of their lives!? they do things right.

anyway, i’ve talked 650% more than i should have- picture time! george proposed on jekyll island so we were excited to do the shoot there as well!

matt’s freshman year at georgia he lived with a few older, wiser, more responsible guys from his hometown- needless to say i think he was their entertainment! it seems from the stories i’ve heard it was an awesome living situation and a lot of fun was had by all.

as they all graduated, matt moved on to his sophomore year of college. while he played guitar & perfected his gainer, his old roommates were marrying their sweethearts & starting families. when matt and i got engaged we spent some time with them and learned what an amazing marriage looked like for young couples who loved life as much as we do. although we don’t see them as often as we’d like, they’ve had a great impact on matt personally as well as on our marriage and we are so grateful for their example!

that being said, we were able to catch up with one of those families just the other day for a day shoot with their adorable little ashton! wes & blakely are the best parents ever and really have fun with ashton- who is quite the curious little man! curious about the cool grass, the big cameras in his face, the skinny guy with crazy black hair who kept making strange faces at him and jumping around… matt loves kids, haha, but really, anything that was going on around ashton caught his attention and wonder. he was the perfect little model! we had a great time exploring the part of the emory campus where blakely works- we had no idea how beautiful it was back there! we’ll be returning for sure. great call guys!

first up, my favorite image from this shoot, taken right at the beginning- ashton is learning to trust us here and i love his slightly doubtful expression! matt won him over shortly after this with a crazy dance/jump move similar to this.

noel & michael are engaged!

noel & michael are our kind of people- they laugh and goof off together but, equally well, they can pull a seriously fierce pokerface- something they assured us from the beginning they couldn’t do! oh, they were so wrong! …in a good way!

we met them at the gorgeous berry college campus for an afternoon of exploring the area & photographing it. noel was an excellent tour guide- she knows everything there is to know about the different parts of berry and just listening to her talk about the place where she met michael we could tell it holds a special place in her heart. they showed us all around campus- where they lived, where they had their first kiss, where they used to talk all night and watch the stars- it was awesome to get such a beautiful picture of how their relationship developed!

before we knew it the sun was setting and we were hurrying up to the retreat center to catch it! we only got a few shots off before the sun dropped behind a few clouds and then finally, set, but they are some of our favorites of the day- i am getting ahead of myself! picture time!

first up- we’d heard from some friends that there was one little service road that would be absolutely essential for images and sure enough, it was on noel’s list of places to stop. and oh my gosh now i know why- it’s stunning!

13_berry_college_wedding_042009

you know- they’re just workin the sun flare! after postponing their original session due to rain they ended up with the most perfect day!

12_berry_college_wedding_042009

yup- still on that pretty little service road! i love how direct this image is:

it is always so sweet to shoot a couple where the guy is so enamored with his lady that he cannot help but grin. that guy is michael- all the way. noel simply makes him the happiest guy ever!

08_berry_college_wedding_042009

remember how they claimed to not pull off serious!? i think this proves otherwise! ;)

07_berry_college_wedding_042009

so we were all sort-of amazed by this little piece of grass that seemed to be growing out of a whitewashed brick wall. who knows how we saw it to begin with but after we all examined it and moved on matt had the brilliance to grab noel’s ring so we could incorporate the little guy in the shoot! so sweet :)

the retreat center used to be a dairy farm and the renovation of the white buildings has left this beautiful landscape with a timeless quality.

04_berry_college_wedding_042009

so this was a little bit of a friendly competition that turned into a series of hilarious images- a little competition can be healthy!

03_berry_college_wedding_042009

my favorite image of this shoot- really, my favorite image we’ve made in a long time. so soft and dreamy! makes me want to do an entire shoot in this style! i’ll have to add that to my list- right under plant a vegetable garden, start an etsy shop & take spontaneous roadtrips- haha, one day!

02_berry_college_wedding_042009

we wanted to end this post with one of the retreat center images we grabbed while the sun was out- doesn’t this just look otherworldly!? such a beautiful landscape- i hope we can shoot at berry again!

01_berry_college_wedding_042009
noel & michael, you two are a blast. we had a great time hanging out with you guys, getting to know you & your story and grabbing some images. we’re so excited for your wedding this fall but hopefully we’ll run into each other before then! :)
