sara & george are engaged!

when i first met skay* she was couch surfing to avoid living in her freshman dorm. she had tossed clothes, books and sketch pads in a bag and was basically living in the apartment downstairs. we became inseparable fast and when a 1/2 room opened up in our place she was the first one called. we spent the next two years watching the zillions of movies her grandfather mailed us- sprawled out on the floor, hands covered in charcoal, bagel bites and art projects creating a disaster that only we could create. it was awesome.

i met george right around the same time i met skay. he played guitar with some of my best friends and when skay moved into my place george moved into a house up the street. we spent many nights half-working/half-watching reality tv- mostly just laughing and relaxing and enjoying life.

just after i graduated and matt and i got married we went back up to athens to visit and found skay and george attached at the hip. they were planning a trip to new york together and, as i heard from other friends, you never saw one without the other. they swore they were best friends and nothing more- and not one of us believed them. finally, after months of rumors, george grabbed her hand and they realized what the rest of us had already seen- that they were made for each other. is there a more perfect way to start a relationship!?

when we found out they were getting married we were beyond excited! they wanted to get married within the year and they wanted to elope. YES. ELOPE. remember how i said they planned a trip to new york together? well, they started dating right after they bought their tickets and ended up having a blast up there together so what more appropriate than a city hall wedding in the heart of nyc? it started as a joke but shortly they realized that, really, nothing was more perfect for them than a small nyc wedding, so that’s what’s going down. they’ll get married this fall with just their immediate families present- and matt & me of course! like we’d let them work with anyone else!- and it’s going to be amazing. TOTALLY their style. surrounded by families that are already great friends and in the magical city they both love- is there a more perfect way to kick off the rest of their lives!? they do things right.

anyway, i’ve talked 650% more than i should have- picture time! george proposed on jekyll island so we were excited to do the shoot there as well!

  • LOVE Sara’s pics.
    :)

And you’re the first photographer I’ve ever seen that can make power lines WORK in a photo. Nicely done.

That tree is an unbelievable! It works as the perfect prop. You two keep outdoing yourselves with every session. Your night shot on the street is wicked. As always, you find the greatest couples who trust your art and your unbelievable location spots. I am throwing out a triple “awesome” on this one.

  • Rachel says:

All of the pics are awesome but I love the one of them standing in the road. It looks like a movie poster.

  • mary says:

oh my goodness! I dunno why I was getting kind of emotional when reading their backstory and the fact that this is your best friend. I guess it made me realize that when my best friends get married one day I will get to capture moments for them that I can only hope are amazing as these that you have capture for sara and george. This session is absolutely stunning and it might be my favorite yet. You guys rock!

  • Dad A says:

The trees laying on the beach with the root “balls” is one heckuva a setting – really unique. And the power lines combined with the offside flash… whatcanisay?

  • Kayla says:

These are awesome! I love the locations!

  • beautifully done, you two! and nice execution with the strobe. “fresh-squeezed awesome” is right. (love your one-liners, matt. :)
isn’t it a blessing to get to “work” with your loved ones this way!? i mean, not only working alongside your best friend, but making cherished images and memories with your closest peeps — and i’m not talkin’ twitter. (tweeting of which, are y’all really into that? i’m still a skeptic…)
eileen and i are finally where you two were several months ago: at the brink, ready to jump in full-time by year’s end. the busiest time of our lives. (can’t wait to have just one full-time job again!)
we’re in atlanta all the time. it’d be really cool to catch you both during lunch some afternoon you’re not working — make the connection. drop me a line if you can.
