jennifer & chris are married!

By | Weddings | 5 Comments

we first met jennifer at rachel and zach’s wedding. she was a bridesmaid and engaged which meant she was super helpful while mentally making notes about her own wedding day as things unfolded for her best friend. when i was engaged it was awesome to have a close friend of mine engaged as well. i can only imagine rachel and jennifer were able to encourage each other during the planning as much as my friend encouraged me. it was clutch to have someone in the midst of it all who understood when i found out my flowers were not in season, ugh. but anyway, when jennifer’s wedding rolled around i knew that she would have rachel and many other friends there to encourage and help her enjoy the best day of her life. that was definitely the case; when jennifer realized she didn’t have a guest book jessica was on it, another bridesmaid, jennifer, made sure everyone had food and her maid of honor, laura, did a fabulous job on her makeup! most of the girls had known each other since early elementary school and it was fun to laugh with them at ridiculous stories from ages ago. how lucky they all are to have stayed so close! let’s jump into the images:

the best way to get a grumpy, sleepy flower girl awake and happy? lots of pearls and quiet time with the bride. worked like a charm!

the ceremony site was so beautiful! the clouds were threatening but the sun came through sporadically with quick bursts of light. in my opinion the unpredictable weather made for beautiful images!

jennifer’s sisters couldn’t hold it in and chris’s sisters look equally as happy. i love this shot, the whole fam’s here!

chris and jennifer were so cute whispering to each other during the ceremony.

a quick sun burst!! look at how she’s lookin at him; what a great couple!

we think it is so so so important to take time to shoot couple shots on the wedding day. if you’re like jennifer and chris and you don’t want to see each other before the ceremony, we’d love to shoot them afterwards! so brides, before you rush into your reception just please consider doing what jennifer did; taking ten minutes alone with you new husband and your photographer; in the end you’ll be so glad you did!

their first dance was outside; it was just starting to get dark and the clouds were so dramatic!

chris’s sisters tore up the dance floor. seriously, i was jealous of their moves-

matt kept shooting even after jennifer and chris had run through all of the sparklers so i just trusted he had and idea and kept holding the light for him. i love love love the resulting shot, such a unique get-away shot!

jennifer & chris, we so appreciate you guys including us in your wedding day! i have to give it to you for combining your loyalties with a black and red wedding and the florida game playing and the florida groom’s cake, truly unique! i hope you two are getting plenty of sunshine and relaxation, can’t wait to get you the rest of the images!

amy & chad are married!

since spending the evening at a braves game getting to know this awesome couple, we’ve been super excited for their wedding so when it finally rolled around this past weekend we were ready! i met amy at their house in time to shoot the talented rochelle doing her thing with amy’s golden locks. from there we headed to tracy ewell for the most perfect and detail oriented makeup application i’ve ever seen- 1.5 hours? worth it; check out how fabulous she looks! while i was hanging out doing girl stuff, matt was with chad and his adorable son noah as they got spiffy together at the home of one of chad’s groomsmen. noah was suuuch a ham for the camera it was tough to pick our faves of the little guy! we’ll start with a few (super huge! i LOVE the new blog!) getting ready shots:

amy and chad were married at holy spirit catholic church. wow, what a beautiful place! the ceremony was short and sweet and after a few portraits we were off to lit kitchen in atlantic station. matt and i had never been there but apparently they teach cooking classes which- based on the appetizers that amy encouraged us to grab- i need to take! so, amazing food, but really what thrilled us the most was watching their family and friends party together! they all seemed to love to dance; between chad and his little sister i think everyone there was pulled out on that dance floor at least once! it was a great party full of smiles and laughter and color and class- perfect. here are a few of our faves:

everyone in this next image is somehow related to amy. i never quite figured it out but they all grouped together and it was awesome- there’s just so much love and excitement in this image!

amy giving her best friend a hug after an emotional, very sweet, toast.

rarely do we turn the camera to a guest to show a picture we’ve taken of them; usually we try to stay invisible and surprise them later on the blog or slideshow. but in the case of these two dancers matt decided to show them how awesome they are. usually we get a laugh and it boosts their confidence to dance like crazy the rest of the evening but in this case the lovely lady commented, ‘ooo, great depth of field!’ when matt told me that story it made me happy!

sometimes i get obsessed with the way light can turn a normal object into a jewel. during these times i usually take five thousand pictures of things like champaign glasses.

the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom gettin’ down on the dance floor! i think these two families have a great future together, huh?

noah turned this poor lady’s hair into a bird’s nest, no doubt she forgave him the minute he looked up at her with his big eyes and cheeks, who couldn’t?

often when you have a vision, the best way to see it through is to do it yourself. that’s what amy did and check out the result!

noah is in love with his mimi- amy. he only walked down the aisle with the rings because she said she was coming right behind him! their relationship is so sweet, this next image just makes me melt.

amy & chad, thank you both for asking us to be part of such a perfect day! everything was beautiful and so ‘you.’ i hope you are having an incredible time sipping cocktails on the warm beaches of cabo, you’re not missing anything but a little rain and humidity here in atl! best wishes!

shilpa & toby are married!

By | Weddings | 6 Comments

saturday was a milestone for us, we photographed our first indian wedding and oh.my.gosh it was amazing! the emotions, the traditions, the colors, the dancing- it was beautiful. shilpa was breathtaking and watching the getting ready process was an incredible treat. her friends and family flitted around her all day each helping in a very specific way and ready at a moment’s notice to grab her a bite to eat, find a specific family member or give their opinion on a piece of exquisite jewelry she was considering wearing.

even though i didn’t know the language being spoken most of the time it was clear to me through glances, attention, gestures and smiles how shilpa’s family felt about her, about toby and about them together- that was amazing to watch. i could go on forever about different portions of this day that were really incredible but let’s get started with the pictures and i’ll explain as we go:

one of toby’s groomsmen sent toby an email letting him know if he didn’t send back a wedding gift idea he would be receiving a brick of nickels, and so:

no one is ever too old for mom’s lipstick residue and subsequent cheek scrub. toby looks thrilled, no? this would be my exact face as well:

the handsome groom looking up toward the room where the girls are peeking from the windows. shilpa dipped back immediately, no chance he caught a glimpse of her!

finishing touches applied by her aunt as her mom looks on:

matt took this awesome shot of the rings on the pillow, the gold diamond ring is toby’s pinkie ring from shilpa’s family while the soft gold ring is his wedding band.

last minute shilpa added the nose ring (a replica of what her mom wore for her own wedding) and made some adjustments to her incredible jewelry.

the wedding started with a short ceremony with just toby and the priest before shilpa entered escorted by her parents.

the ceremony was beautiful and it was amazing how close we were able to shoot and still be out of the way. these are some of my most favorite ceremony shots ever:

matt and i love this image for all of the different textures and beautiful colors:

toby and shilpa got into a small rice fight during the ceremony. it seemed shilpa knew that placing the rice on toby’s head would turn into a competition- toby did not. after the first few gentle palmfuls of rice toby placed on her head he caught on and really filled up his hands and dumped it on her. just after this she trumped him by picking up the basin and emptying the rest over his head. i like her style.

there was a cocktail hour and a break for the bride and groom to change before the reception got started with shilpa’s dad giving a sweet toast to his daughter and thanking everyone from coming from all over the world to celebrate with them.

the happy couple as they listen to the toast:

…and the dancing began! toby prepared his groomsmen by telling them to just pretend to screw in light-bulbs with each hand. that was great instruction for them because watching this guy right here i’d say this just can’t be taught:

shilpa’s parents breaking it down:

everyone cheered as the newlyweds broke away from chatting with old friends for a few dances together:

i don’t think the end of the night for us was the end for them! as we pulled out at 12:30 there were calls across the parking lot of an after party promising lots more fun to come, whew!

shilpa and toby, you are incredible together. watching you lovingly intertwine your different cultures was a beautiful experience for everyone in attendance. thank you so much for having us and we wish you the best honeymoon ever- how could diving and exploring australia not be amazing with you two involved?!
