kristy & tom are married!

By | Weddings | 3 Comments

it is rare that we meet a couple for the first time on their wedding day; we usually at least grab coffee, tour their venue together or take engagement photos. so when the rare times occur and we first meet on the day of, i’m always nervous. and nerves don’t suit me. i get rather spastic really and words come out of my mouth before i’ve completely thought them through. luckily i know this about myself so as i walked into the salon to meet kristy i gave myself a good pep talk consisting mostly of ‘man up, kate!’ i flicked around my settings until they were what i assumed would work inside of the salon- knowing of course i’d be readjusting in mere minutes when i actually got up the courage to enter. it turns out i’d beat them all there and as the bridesmaids arrived it was easy to relax and chat and shoot. when kristy got there i couldn’t wait to meet her. i’d heard so many good things from her best friends that i knew we were all in for a fabulous day.

kristy is thoughtful, organized, passionate about her friends and family and she is in love with tom. matt and i spent the day getting to know kristy and tom and both of their families- it wasn’t long before i felt like i had known them forever. despite the current insane traffic patterns in augusta ga, everyone was encouraging and excited- our kind of people!

now let’s get started on the images! first up we have one of my favorite composite images ever. i know it’s kinda unorthodox and a little bizarre but to me it just fits.

kristy had seriously incredible eyelashes- the kind everyone in the world is jealous of. including me- my response was to just take lots of pictures:

the very lucky groom:

kristy had organized a driver to take all of her wedding party to the augusta botanical gardens before the ceremony for portraits-  excellent idea! it was really exciting to take our time and get some creative shots. here are a few of our faves of kristy & tom:

next it was onto the ceremony. the church didn’t allow flash photography so we are quite indebted to the gentleman with the point and shoot who provided a nice edge for this next photo :)

the reception was in the ballroom of the hotel where the guests (being mostly from out of town) were staying that evening. just one of the many examples of kristy thinking of her guests and making sure their visit was carefree.

i’ve talked before about how much i love taking images that look like jewels to me- here’s an example!

a perk of the reception site/hotel:

there was some seriously crazy dancing at this wedding! matt even asked the dj for a copy of the playlist- it was so full of songs we loved but hadn’t heard in ages!

yup, that’s the groom, being bounced into the air by the interlocking hands of his best friends- simply hilarious!

the night ended with tom’s grandfather leading everyone in ‘new york, new york.’ it began acapella but was quickly picked up by the dj. it was the perfect way to end the night- everyone locking arms, singing at the top of their lungs (somewhat) directed by grandpa. awesome.

kristy & tom, you organized an amazing day. everything was warm and family oriented- what a great way to celebrate your marriage! thank you for everything and best wishes!

jean & bj are married!

we first met jean only two weeks before her wedding! she had booked us through the mail and we’d corresponded via email so when it came time to meet her face to face we were ready…we thought.

we met her for a cappuccino and she began telling us her story. remember how i said we were ready? not true. the first thing she filled us in on was that she and bj had recently been married. jean laughed at our failure to hide our surprise and explained that bj was canadian and once they moved to atlanta it had been in their best interest to go ahead and tie the knot- we laughed for a while about how much pressure that took off their upcoming wedding! at the end of our meeting, jean left us with a quick warning about how crazy awesome their celebration was going to be. and oh, it was. here are a few of our faves:

the sun was out in full force and it was doing beautiful things with the decor! even the shadows were worth a few images:

old homes with staircases like this always make for interesting shots. i love how full this image is:

jean and her father arrived to the ceremony in a carriage and it was a big hit. the driver was even kind enough to stay after the ceremony and take the little kids for a trip around the block- what a great idea!

the place cards had little bells for the guests to ring and encourage the newlyweds to kiss- no broken glasses at this wedding!

little kids love matt, i think he nailed this next shot:

such a sweet moment during their first dance…

this is my favorite picture of jean; she just looks super stunning here:

jean & bj, it was awesome to spend saturday getting to know you and your families; thank you so much for choosing us to capture it all! you should probably know that matt said ‘eh’ after everything he said for days, haha! no doubt we’ll run into you guys around atlanta- we look forward to it!

andrea & nathan are married!

when we first met andrea and nathan it was on a rainy saturday in augusta. we traipsed up and down the riverwalk shooting beneath umbrellas and making the most of what the day had to offer. we were shooting their engagement session and nothing was going to get in the way of them enjoying being together. their outlook on life in general is just that. unstoppable. we saw them again at jessica and mark’s wedding and realized that they are also unstoppable on the dance floor- we couldn’t wait until their wedding!

andrea and nathan were married on a beautifully sunny, breezy saturday in downtown augusta. matt and i had a great time seeing them again and being part of the celebration- and what a celebration it was! people were all around us dancing and laughing and enjoying life- andrea & nathan style. the whole day was laid back, full of huge grins and laughter. no doubt the rest of their lives will be marked by those characteristics as well.

i love how the back-light let’s you see all of the amazing detail in andrea’s gown, it was stunning!

the beautiful bride! (sidenote: i’m very jealous of her amazing hair!)

and the handsome groom:

more dress details, lovely:

love the drama of this next shot:

during the ceremony andrea stole a look back at her bridesmaids, it was such a sweet moment:

kinda different for us, but we were really excited by the lighting:

andrea & nathan’s first dance was so classic; they are both really beautiful dancers:

chillin on the dance floor. this little guy kept lying down every time his dad would try to hold his hands and dance with him, it was hysterical!

nathan and his dad gettin’ down!

andrea & nathan, it was great to see you guys again! we are so glad you decided to include us in your day- everything was just perfect! i hope that your new life is going well; we look forward to keeping in touch!
