jennifer & rob are married!

By | Weddings | 2 Comments

every year, when spring wedding season rolls around, matt & i find ourselves with a renewed joy- the trees are covered in buds, the sun is warming (our cars are GREEN with pollen) and we’re able to look ahead at all of the wonderful couples we’ll be spending our weekends celebrating. so this year, when the february fog ended and we looked at the calender, seeing jennifer & rob’s names brought smiles to our faces. it’s rare to see a rehearsal dinner on our schedule but there it was- meaning we were going to spend two days in a row capturing their celebration! we enjoyed their rehearsal dinner so much- the toasts were incredible (half were full length poems!), their friends and families mingled easily and the love and support was crystal clear. a beautiful evening.

so when we showed up for their wedding the next morning we were as excited as anyone else for jennifer & rob to start the rest of their life together! well, almost as excited as everyone else- there has never been a bride in the history of brides as excited as jennifer. you guys, i’m serious. she was so calm and cool on the outside but the bubbling excitement on the inside kept overflowing into secret smiles, little giggles and a few times, squeals  & jumping- cutest thing ever! but mostly, there was a solid feeling of ‘meant to be,’ as the time grew closer. but before i get all carried away (or, even further carried away ;)) let’s get to the images:

i love how calm and peaceful these first two pairings are. jennifer is naturally a very graceful person- even when she’s just sitting to have her makeup done or putting on jewelry:

we haven’t included a macro shot in a while and since i love them so much, let’s get back to it! i am so happy with how dramatic this one came out- the inky blacks in the beautiful setting give the diamonds such a stunning glisten!

jennifer loves pink, so naturally:

meanwhile, the gents were arriving ready to get this thing started! i love this series matt captured of rob’s dad (and best man) helping him into his jacket. we could tell from the second we arrived to their rehearsal dinner that rob & his dad have an awesome relationship and we were excited to be able to capture more of it on the wedding day!

really, i think i could write a little paragraph on these two families and how much i respect how sweet and loving everyone is to one another! instead, i’ll leave you with these images of jennifer’s dad seeing her for the first time. he complimented her so specifically- i know that sounds strange but it really said so much about their relationship that he mentioned not only how beautiful she looked but also how perfect the buttons were down the back and the way the fabric fell, almost like water. there wasn’t a dry eye in the room:

then it was time! jennifer & rob were married at peachtree road united methodist church– such a stunning place to be married:

from there we drove just down the street to their reception at the atlanta history center, one of the most beautiful backdrops in the city! we had some time with just jennifer & rob before they were introduced and we are so glad we did! i love how these portraits have such a timeless quality to them- jennifer & rob rocked it for sure!

the reception was a party! i really believe the rest of these images tell the story so clearly- i won’t even comment between them:

jennifer & rob, i know i’m the 23459080th person to tell you this but- you guys are perfect together. we are so thrilled to have been part of such an amazing day and we wish you the very best!

Toni & Matt are Married!

when we decided- around this time last year- that we were going to take february 2010 totally off, we knew that it would be an awesome time to recharge and revamp our outlook on our work. we spent the month reevaluating our equipment, goals and workflow, but also, we found ourselves getting antsy. it was an exciting thing to realize that we were looking forward to charging back into our work- exciting and comforting!

so last saturday we dove back in with toni & matt’s beautiful wedding! really, they had no idea that they were going to get the brunt of our new ideas but when we showed up to start shooting it was clear that they trusted our style, thank goodness! when toni arrived at the stunning peachtree christian church she could not quit smiling- her face was full of joy and her laughter came easy. her bridesmaids were relaxed, encouraging and so excited by every detail of the day- really the perfect group of ladies to be surrounded by on her wedding day. it was a good day.

just a few quick shots at the church & king plow before the reception:

we walked into the reception and were immediately greeted by steve bales and the bold american crew’s brilliance. sprays of yellow and warm light contrasted with modern black and white details, giving the reception a feeling of warm sunny joy that matched toni’s smile. the tip top’s were rocking out in the background and the air seemed alive with laughter and the delightful smells of their famous catering– just to give you an idea:

the reception flowed as easily as the rest of the day thanks to the detailed coordination of ashley baber whose calm, positive demeanor seemed effortless- the mark of a true professional. just after the late night snack of tater tots and grilled cheese disappeared it was time to depart, which toni & matt did in style!

toni & matt, thank you so so much for including us in your wedding day! everything was beautiful, yes, but watching you two interact was the biggest joy to capture. i hope you are enjoying your rest in maldives; we wish you the very best!

nicole & dan are married!

my birthday week came to a close at nicole & dan’s wedding and since i’d been celebrating pretty much all week i was quite prepared to celebrate more! i arrived at the W- incidentally the perfect place to begin any party- and nicole immediately introduced me around. the room was full of family and close friends all talking and smiling and enjoying adorable tiny sandwiches. nicole’s sense of humor made it easy for me to enjoy shooting all day- she had us all laughing out loud with her offhand comments! literally, LOLing. i should hire her to write this blog. AND redesign this blog- LET ME JUST TELL YOU- she’s got an amazing design sense and it took a serious ‘discussion’ with matt for me to realize that i cannot include every single picture of every detail of her wedding. let’s get back to the tiny sandwiches at the W- hair and makeup was in full swing and since the guys didn’t need matt for another hour he was able to grab the rings and nicole’s dress and capture some killer details! this is my favorite ring shot taken on an old typewriter at the bar:

meanwhile the girls (and i) were laughing and generally relaxing and enjoying the day- love this next series of nicole and her bridesmaids:

before the guys started getting ready matt met up with them and they all made their way up to the roof to make some amazing images! the day was so cold the water from the pool was steaming- pretty:

after all of the finishing touches we jumped into a trolly bound for the king plow arts center– where the ceremony and reception was held. when we walked in we headed straight to the site to check on the decor. mark thompson, floral stylist for christopher confero luxe event design and a friend of nicole’s from design school worked with christopher to lovingly craft an environment with nicole in mind. she knew the general concept of their design but many of the details were a surprise- i think i was excited as everyone else when we were greeted with this perfect entry table!

nicole & dan’s wedding was illuminated by HUNDREDS of candles and to complete the glowing, romantic atmosphere, a dreamy golden tree was projected at the altar. i’d never seen anything like it before- the candlelight flickered off the old bricks and glistened at the edges of more than one set of eyes. the effect was intimate and calming. (attn photo nerds: we shot the ceremony at 6400 ISO at 1/40th of a second)

after the ceremony we had a few minutes to grab some portraits before the reception. it was freezing outside so after a few one light portraits around the grounds we decided to embrace the cold for the last few shots and capture the breath that came out in a puff of white with each exhale. the resulting images are pretty intense:

meanwhile the guests were enjoying the beautiful hors d’oeuvres and sparkling beverages that define bold american catering. they clustered around high tables with natural arrangements of perfect buds in re-purposed glass- glowing with the flickering warm light of yet MORE candles. so glad we had a second to grab some shots of the decor before the party started!

nicole & dan entered to deafening applause and cheers with grins stretched across their faces. the celebration was joyful and there was plenty of dancing and laughing! here are a few of our favorite shots:

just before the end of the evening we snuck nicole & dan out for just a few more images of the two of them. i love capturing just a few portraits at the end of the wedding day- after everything is over and there are no more details to worry about- it’s so natural and relaxed.

nicole & dan, thank you so much for allowing us to photograph such a beautiful day! we enjoyed getting to know you guys more as well as your families- capturing it all was great! we wish you both the very best!
