katie & blain are married!

By | Weddings | One Comment

after a whirlwind holiday season full of fun and little pockets of relaxation, we were energized and ready to start 2010 with katie & blain’s wedding! the air was ice cold and bright blue when we pulled into washington, georgia the morning of january 2nd. matt and i arrived with just enough time to grab breakfast together before we got started. it was a peaceful way to start the year, sitting across from one another, sipping coffee, eating biscuits and soaking in the fact that we pretty much have the best job ever. ;) when i arrived at the historic fitzpatrick hotel in downtown washington i was immediately excited by the beauty of the building and even more surprised when i ventured inside! everything was so beautifully and creatively restored and the backdrop it provided for our images was just stunning. katie had definitely thought that through- well, katie is one of those people who has thought everything through! she’s super organized, creative and inspired but also quite peaceful. her wedding day started in a beautiful place surrounded by her closest friends and family- what a way to kick off the year!

katie made sure we had plenty of time for portraits of all kinds! we enjoyed the room where she got ready so much that we started there. it was beyond freezing outside but katie & blain were prepared and we finished up couple portraits with chattering teeth beneath our grins. SO WORTH IT! three thumbs up for katie & blain sticking it out!

with plenty of time to thaw out before the ceremony; everyone was warm with excitement when it came time to walk down the aisle!

it’s always so sweet to watch couples take a moment to absorb what just happened once they walk back down the aisle. it always makes for some of our favorite images!

onto the reception! katie & her friends and family had done an amazing job with the catering and decor and it was finally time to enjoy it all and celebrate!

mandy & mark are married!

our last wedding of 2009 took us back to matt’s hometown- augusta, georgia, where we spent the day with mandy & mark. i’d never met them before the wedding day so, naturally, i was all nerves and unfinished sentences but thankfully matt was there to introduce me to mandy- and that’s all it took! i was comfortable with her sweet, quiet demeanor from the beginning and capturing her peaceful joy was a beautiful way to end an awesome year! matt began his day at a barber shop where mark and the guys enjoyed hot shaves to jump start their day. now, i don’t know this, as i do not shave my face, but i can only imagine this is the perfect way to start a wedding day- just imagining a steamy warm towel wrapped around my head makes my muscles relax a little bit- which is truely saying a lot since i’ve been hunched over this little computer all day! i’ll have to try that sometime…but i digress. i love this shot matt captured of mark- he sure does work every angle! looks relaxing, eh?

meanwhile, i was enjoying the abundance of jewel tones all around me- using them in my shots as often as i could. this little blue stool was perfect for showcasing mandy & mark’s rings- usually i try to find something for the rings to interact with- hang on or reflect from- but really, it’s hard to go wrong with a pop of the right color! and it goes so well with the little library the ladies relaxed in before excitedly getting dressed!

mandy’s grandmother used to wear a pendant for each of her grandchildren and they could only be distinguished by their birthstones- how sweet that mandy carried her pendant with her- wrapped lightly around her bouquet:

we took a few seconds to grab some portraits before the guests started to arrive. the last few minutes before the ceremony were charged with emotion- excitement and love poured from everyone- i loved capturing mandy’s parents having this intimate moment just before their daughter walked down the aisle.

darkness fell during the ceremony and when we exited into moonlight mandy & mark were not even a little worried about heading out to shoot their couple portraits! we grabbed a light and captured some shots with a certain style- a ‘look’ that suited mandy & mark perfectly! they worked it, oh yes:

back at their reception they kicked things off with a beautifully choreographed first dance- so graceful even with the 16 inch height difference!

after toasts we grabbed a few details before the dancing swept the night away! everyone celebrated mandy & mark in style- dancing, cheering, and laughing until the very end. many of the guests even ran after the newlyweds with sparklers to help light the route as they were walking down the street to their hotel- best friends ever!

we broke down as quickly as we could and met mandy & mark for just a few more night portraits at a big amphitheater near their hotel. i love these images because it shows them after their big day was finished- just relaxing and enjoying being together and being married. what a great way to end 2009!

i remember when little peyton was born like it was yesterday. i was sitting at my computer in atlanta refreshing my twitter every two milliseconds while, far away in augusta, jaynah was in labor and andrew was keeping us all posted whenever he could. the updates started around 3:30pm on monday when they got to the hospital and were pretty consistent until around 7:00am when he dropped off and didn’t update again until around 11:00am! do you KNOW how many times that means i hit refresh in those 4 hours!? yea, i can’t do that math either. but anyway. suffice it to say we were so excited to finally hear that peyton was healthy and happy and starting her new life like a champ. when we met her a few weeks later we could hardly believe how tiny she was- but yet so perfect. jaynah & andrew talked with us and we all decided to take some images of them when peyton was 6 months old. when the time finally came we were excited to get started but also pretty much in disbelief that those 6 months had gone by so quickly! thank you little peyton for reminding me to live in the moment and enjoy every day!

we made these images at a little farm/natural area in our neighborhood and i love how private it was! and the huge tree in the middle with a swing? perfection:

peyton is FULL of wonder! always looking around- taking in her surroundings with obvious curiosity. i’m thinking that when she learns to talk she’s going to have LOTS of questions about EVERYTHING!

she’s also a lover. cuddling into jaynah and then andrew and then jaynah again- just keeping tabs, making sure everyone gets love. i think she takes after her parents in that regard- together they make the happiest family!

couldn’t pass up a few shots with the light- even though that was definitely not peyton’s favorite pose of the day she busted a few moves for us anyway:

oh, i need to mention that they brought daisy, their little pup and first child, to jump in a few shots! most of the time she was just exploring the little farm, running around and having the time of her life but she did make it into a few shots. my favorite daisy shot is this next one where’s she’s kissing her little sister on the head- they’re bff for sure:

after all this shooting peyton was starting to get sleepy and she settled in for a little nap against andrew’s shoulder. look at those sleepy eyes!
