melanie & kyle are married!

By | Weddings | 2 Comments

matt & i first met melanie & kyle about four years ago while (watching some friends) brewing beer in someone’s driveway we both only knew through blogging. for a while, we saw melanie there almost every monday- her appearance was always a relief to me as these get togethers tended to be pretty guy-heavy. she liked good music, good beer, good food & cute puppies so pretty quickly i felt we were friends. :)  when kyle got a job in arkansas, they packed up and left atlanta to start a new life in their new city, together. and then they moved again- now they’re texans! can you even imagine packing up everything you own and leaving your friends and family, not once but twice in just two years!? and to such different places too!? hats off to you, melanie & kyle, for making the very best of what must have been a pretty crazy two years. we kept up with their moves on twitter- the struggles and celebrations and everything in between, and i often found myself smiling at their back and forth playful banter and feeling that melanie & kyle are just the most natural and perfect fit for one another. they seem so relaxed and comfortable when they’re together- clearly they are best friends. and when best friends get married? well, that’s just the best. :)

melanie & kyle had their ceremony and reception at hill manor- so it was there that we met them for their final preparations and first look images. as often as we go to weddings, my eyes still fill up when i see a guy totally blown away by how incredibly beautiful his bride looks on their wedding day- and kyle was exactly that. his smile when he saw melanie could not have been any wider- it is just not possible.

i just love the dress melanie chose- the scalloped edges and the eyelet details and the applique! oh my!

melanie let her ladies pick their own dresses- what a beautiful combination!

destination wedding photography- our story :)

By | Personal | 2 Comments

five years ago when matt & i were tossing around the idea of shooting weddings together, we kept a pretty extensive mental pro/con list. on one hand, we held steady jobs with guaranteed income and on the other hand…was the complete unknown. one side had us preparing for retirement, saving and investing and the other side was…completely unknown. when we finally just threw out the list and trusted that this is what we were supposed to be doing, we breathed a sigh of relief and dove in head first. :) our first year surprised us by taking us to lots of new cities and introducing us to some seriously amazing friends. after that first year matt & i decided to really focus on weddings in atlanta- our cozy little home is here and as much as we loved the travel, it was wearing on us a little (maybe because my ’93 accord was sans a/c…;))

but then something happened- incredible destination weddings started coming our way and as much as we wanted to be there, we found ourselves booked in atlanta. after turning down several tropical destinations and a particularly painful email to some good friends of ours getting married in their tiny hometown in the alps, we decided it was time to have a little faith and not book ourselves so solidly. (kinda hard when lots of bookings = job security!) needless to say, it wasn’t long before we were back shooting in some other favorite cities like asheville, new orleans and savannah, and when the next opportunity for a wedding in france came our way- we were actually available to shoot! a little celebration took place here at the altmix household and we wrote back with excitement and probably entirely too many exclamation points. ;) when everything was official, we started our planning. we left for our adventure june 14th and 3 weeks, 5 distinctly different french cities and 240957 pounds of pastries later, we’re back home and beyond excited to share it all with you! i havent even seen one image yet but if i just dropped my camera and it accidentally fired anywhere in france it would be the most beautiful picture ever, so i’m not worried. ;) stay tuned!

for now, i want to send a huge THANK YOU! to the delightful and talented jonathan canlas for having us ‘model’ for his recent workshop in atlanta. we were so blessed by all of the photographers we met and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for sharing their talent and images with us- we treasure them all. :)

crystal & daniel are married!

crystal & daniel are best friends. they’ve seen each other through so many of life’s twists and turns and, as friends, they encouraged one another through everything. they share a passion for intentional community and seeing them surrounded by so many close friends on their wedding day made obvious how important they are in the lives of so many. but crystal & daniel don’t just share a deep love for their friends and family, they also share a passion and determination to help the less fortunate all over the world. it was through serving and sharing this passion that they fell in love. currently, they are both working with nonprofits, impacting the world around them with an incredible amount of energy and love. together, they are a powerful force of good- bringing happiness and healing to whoever is blessed to meet them. crystal & daniel are two people who share one heart. for us, spending a day with them and listening to their friends and family speak about their selflessness and dedication to making our world a better place, was such a blessing and such a joy to capture. here are a few of our favorite images from their day:

crystal & daniel allotted plenty of time for portraits after their ceremony- we loved it! :) we drove to several locations and explored a variety of landscapes:

reception time!

while crystal’s dad gave his speech, daniel’s dad translated his words into english- it was a happy but emotional time for everyone and seeing the friendship between their two families was so sweet:

crystal & daniel, we feel so blessed to have been a part of such a beautiful celebration and the beginning of your new life together, thank you. we wish you the very best!
