beth & lawton are married!

By | Weddings | 8 Comments

we were so excited that we’d be spending part of our memorial day weekend in one of our favorite cities- athens! and we were equally excited that we’d be there to celebrate the marriage of two awesome people so obviously in love- beth & lawton! we arrived to a silent city [very few athens citizens are ever awake at 7:45 on a saturday morning ;)] and the peaceful stillness washed over me as i walked up the big wooden stairs in arbor salon where beth was quietly talking to her mom as she was having her nails done. our morning passed leisurely as beth and her sweet mom were pampered and prepped for the big day ahead! as energetic and outgoing as beth is, this seemed to be her time to breathe deeply, absorb the day, dream and prepare for the new life she would be starting with lawton. it was the perfect way to get started!

from the salon we were off to the foundry to enjoy a big breakfast beth’s dad was preparing- surrounded by a smiling group of excited ladies! beth was welcomed into the suite with hugs and even a few cheers as her best friends oooed and ahhhed over her hair and makeup and recounted what happened while beth was at the salon. the ladies finished getting ready while i grabbed a few details and beth took a quiet moment to write a note to her husband to be:

meanwhile:

when beth arrived at the church she quickly hung up her dress and checked over a few details while we waited for the rest of her bridesmaids to arrive. she was so excited to see lawton when he arrived that she couldn’t stop grinning as she fanned out her programs and arranged her guestbook, a gift from her sister, near the doors of the church.

then it was finally time for beth & lawton to see one another! after an intimate first look in the sanctuary we headed out into the sun for some fun, summery portraits full of huge smiles and excitement- their love was overflowing and it was beautiful to capture:

the girls and guys headed back to the ac to relax before the ceremony. when the time came, the nerves snuck in just barely but were quickly erased by the antics of their adorable and totally unpredictable flower girl:

after beth & lawton were officially a new family, we took some time to make images on their (and our!) old stomping grounds- the beautiful north campus of the university of georgia.

the reception seemed to fly by in a whirl of dancing- before we knew it, they were off!

beth & lawton, thank you so much for bringing us back to athens to enjoy your love and be reminded of our own! we wish you the very best in texas and we hope you’re loving married life!

i’m sitting here watching my dog kick herself in the head- to get to a little itch- and i can’t help but think that’s kinda what gardening has been like for me so far. i’ve read everywhere about the subtleties of soil PH, the complexities of trellises and the almost imperceptible signs that a plant is sick and yet, sometime around mid march i decided i was meant to be a gardener and dove straight in. thank goodness matt was there to keep my enthusiasm in check (note: i do not see this as negative) when my ideas started to get out of hand (running lines from the house windows to use as plant supports may have come up…) or we’d be in even further over our heads. as it stands now, we’re looking at 40+ tomato plants, 12ish cucumber plants, 9ish jalapeno plants, 6 strawberry plants and an abundance of herbs and edible flowers that i need to learn what in the world to do with. does it seem a little extreme to have so many tomatoes? you tell me how you bring yourself to throw out perfectly good seedlings!! i’ve been documenting it all and i hope to have a sequence to share later in the season but right now the plants are still in their growth spurt stage- so i’m waiting on that. for now, just a few pics of what i’m so excited about!

lavender- we have a couple types and i have yet to do anything with it other than grab a leaf to rub between my palms when i need a little pick me up. a friend of mine made a chocolate lavender cake once- maybe i’ll give that a whirl- though we all know what a disaster baking is for me!

big boys & supersweet 100s will hopefully overflowith in a month or so! i’m trying not to get too optimistic and i’m limiting my google searches on how to can tomatoes until i see some serious progress. for now i’m almost content with their pretty yellow flowers and the heavenly smell of ‘fresh!’

the cucumbers are budding too and the teeny little veggies are getting me excited about one of my all time favorite foods- pickles!

OH YOU GUYS! i totally forgot that i have’t introduced you to our new little gang of chickens! without further adieu, the ladies:

…and their delicious gift to us:

they can usually be found scratching the ground for yummies(?), fighting for perch space or begging (sqwaking) for table scraps. they are hilarious to watch, they cannot be trained (not for lack of trying) and they go to bed at 8pm every night. on the dot.

so far we’ve learned a LOT and we cant wait to make our little backyard more fruitful next year! what about you? are you gardening this year? chickening? any tips for us? lavender recipes? ;)

for now, peace out friends! the bachelorette starts in exactly 60 seconds which gives me just enough time to take care of this ambush pickle craving i was just hit with! go ali!

jennifer & rob are married!

By | Weddings | 2 Comments

every year, when spring wedding season rolls around, matt & i find ourselves with a renewed joy- the trees are covered in buds, the sun is warming (our cars are GREEN with pollen) and we’re able to look ahead at all of the wonderful couples we’ll be spending our weekends celebrating. so this year, when the february fog ended and we looked at the calender, seeing jennifer & rob’s names brought smiles to our faces. it’s rare to see a rehearsal dinner on our schedule but there it was- meaning we were going to spend two days in a row capturing their celebration! we enjoyed their rehearsal dinner so much- the toasts were incredible (half were full length poems!), their friends and families mingled easily and the love and support was crystal clear. a beautiful evening.

so when we showed up for their wedding the next morning we were as excited as anyone else for jennifer & rob to start the rest of their life together! well, almost as excited as everyone else- there has never been a bride in the history of brides as excited as jennifer. you guys, i’m serious. she was so calm and cool on the outside but the bubbling excitement on the inside kept overflowing into secret smiles, little giggles and a few times, squeals  & jumping- cutest thing ever! but mostly, there was a solid feeling of ‘meant to be,’ as the time grew closer. but before i get all carried away (or, even further carried away ;)) let’s get to the images:

i love how calm and peaceful these first two pairings are. jennifer is naturally a very graceful person- even when she’s just sitting to have her makeup done or putting on jewelry:

we haven’t included a macro shot in a while and since i love them so much, let’s get back to it! i am so happy with how dramatic this one came out- the inky blacks in the beautiful setting give the diamonds such a stunning glisten!

jennifer loves pink, so naturally:

meanwhile, the gents were arriving ready to get this thing started! i love this series matt captured of rob’s dad (and best man) helping him into his jacket. we could tell from the second we arrived to their rehearsal dinner that rob & his dad have an awesome relationship and we were excited to be able to capture more of it on the wedding day!

really, i think i could write a little paragraph on these two families and how much i respect how sweet and loving everyone is to one another! instead, i’ll leave you with these images of jennifer’s dad seeing her for the first time. he complimented her so specifically- i know that sounds strange but it really said so much about their relationship that he mentioned not only how beautiful she looked but also how perfect the buttons were down the back and the way the fabric fell, almost like water. there wasn’t a dry eye in the room:

then it was time! jennifer & rob were married at peachtree road united methodist church– such a stunning place to be married:

from there we drove just down the street to their reception at the atlanta history center, one of the most beautiful backdrops in the city! we had some time with just jennifer & rob before they were introduced and we are so glad we did! i love how these portraits have such a timeless quality to them- jennifer & rob rocked it for sure!

the reception was a party! i really believe the rest of these images tell the story so clearly- i won’t even comment between them:

jennifer & rob, i know i’m the 23459080th person to tell you this but- you guys are perfect together. we are so thrilled to have been part of such an amazing day and we wish you the very best!
