stasia & andrew are married!

By | Weddings | 14 Comments

last weekend matt and i had the pleasure of hanging out with an amazing couple- stasia & andrew! it was our first wedding of 2009 and we showed up more than ready to get back into creating images! when i arrived at stasia’s house to start shooting, the day was already in full swing- no groggy morning coffee drinkers here! LOTS of energy was flowing as the ladies poured over fashion mags looking for hairstyle ideas- exclaiming as they found ones they loved for themselves and pointing out perfect style ideas for other bridesmaids. everyone seemed constantly on the edge of being overtaken by excitement and sudden outbursts of song, laughter, and dance were abundant. what an amazing environment for stasia as she entered one of the most exciting days of her life! i found myself laughing along with the girls as they recounted their favorite stories of stasia and andrew and shared contagious smiles that were so intense they became slight grimaces, haha! there was no slowing down the momentum of this day and it continued on like this until the reception ended! but now that i’ve talked forever about the amazing ladies let’s get started with a picture of the gentlemen of the day:

and a few of the lovely ladies trying to walk while talking and laughing and huddling close for warmth!

so as i mentioned in my last post, stasia was wonderful enough to make some time for a few casual bridal portraits. i love the timeless beauty in these shots- stasia’s expressions and natural poses were just so elegant:

just as we were finishing up these images, matt was starting to shoot the beginning of the ceremony! our friend from college, barrett, plays beautifully and i love how this images seems to capture his love for music:

just before it was time to line up, all of the ladies gathered around and prayed over stasia and the new life she was about to start. it was a very sweet and emotional time- everyone was grateful for their waterproof mascara!

and they did it! i love the excitement in this shot, stasia is such an animated person!

after the ceremony the tears were not quite over. here, stasia comforts her mother as her joyful tears catch stasia off guard, what a sweet moment:

stasia and andrew had built in time for couple portraits after the ceremony before the reception but the rain clouds had caused night to fall about 30 minutes before we expected sunset! so instead of exploring outdoors we took a few shots in the sanctuary and then, with the help of a few lovely bridesmaids, we grabbed a few nighttime portraits before they jumped in their car to head to the reception. i love the creativity unforeseen circumstances can bring. these actually ended up being some of my favorite portraits we’ve made in a while!

when we showed up to the reception, cocktail hour was in full swing and we could already tell that this was going to be a serious party! their amazing (and beautiful and talented and organized) wedding planner, snuck us into the reception to set up our lights and the guests poured in shortly thereafter. the cheers as andrew and stasia were announced were deafening and after that everyone crowded the dance floor for the rest of the evening. like i said earlier, there was NEVER a dull moment the whole day!

there are many things matt and i like about our job- in fact i could talk all day about how much we love what we do but today i want to discuss just one thing that matt and i LOVE on a wedding day. we LOVE having some time with just the bride and just the groom to take some individual, more creative, portraits. this past weekend i was so excited when the bride stepped away from her ladies for just a few minutes and worked it for some unique portraits! we were able to work with what we had in her bridal room and get some pretty sweet shots- you’ll see many more later but i couldn’t help but post the one i just finished editing. i LOVE it. and i LOVE stasia. and i cannot wait to show you more- SOON!

in other news:

ATLANTA, WHY ARE YOU FREEZING OVER!?

i guess it is january and i should really be relishing this because in a few short months it’s going to be 101 degrees and steamy but the fact remains, today it’s just freezing. a couple months ago when i created my christmas list matt and i laughed as we realized that all i was asking for were items to help me stay warm- glittens, arm warmers, tights, scarves, long sleeves, boots, cardigans…the list went on. it didn’t occur to me that this was a rash thing to do- that 9 out of 12 months it would all be in a box under the bed- that in two months i’d have wished i asked for cute bathing suits- no. i was just cold and it needed solving and thanks to my loving family, it was. so booyea to all you fancy forward thinkers, i’m warm TODAY! ;)

today our little baby, altmixblog, is officially one year old- they do grow up so fast! we entered the blog world quite ignorant of the joys to be found here and were shocked as we watched the blog stats quickly dwarf the website. 148 posts later, little blog is walking on her (yup, HER) own and really taking on her own little personality! just for old time’s sake let’s reminisce about her little life so far:

our first blog header! we used an image from the first wedding we ever shot- chosen because the composition worked wide screen and we thought the old buildings would give us an edgy vibe, haha:

a few months later we decided we wanted the blog to be a little more personal- give a couple faces to the voices of the blog. a friend and fellow photographer had come on a shoot with us and she grabbed some impromptu images of us when it was over to create this new header. it was the beginning of the end as far as ridiculous images of us! also, i kinda look 12 years old.

next up, NEW BLOG. woohoo! ‘blogsite’ if you will. HUGE rotating images, internal navigation and get that logo OFF the header image, please! …we also learned a thing or two about studio lighting.

when yellow bike came into our lives this past summer we knew it was time for a makeover- and just in time for the holidays! these images were not easy to take but the most rewarding so far- no idea what’s up next except that it will probably happen soon as the mistletoe is no doubt confusing those of you who are SO over christmas. ;) we’re on it!

ok, so after that little trip down memory lane i’m really excited about little blog’s second year- if so much happened in the first year- can’t even more happen this year!? we’ve got dreams yo.

we’ve only been involved in blogging one year and i can already say that if it weren’t for this unique form of communication with our clients, fans and friends we would not be where we are today. if you’re reading this and you have a small business or are even thinking of starting one, i really encourage you to give blogging a try! it is such an amazingly encouraging community and a great way to share with the world what you’re all about! a few of the greatest things i’ve learned are to get ideas and share the love by commenting on other blogs that inspire me, keep a little notebook in my purse to jot down blog ideas as i think of them and most of all to just have fun with it! :) i have no doubt that i will continue to do all of these things for as long as i have a blog.

anyway, happy birthday little blog, we are having such fun with you and we can’t wait to see where you take us next!
