with love, from me, to you

it ended the same way it began, at mcdonald’s. embarrassing? yes, but my options were limited. i had just gotten married and moved to atlanta. i was jobless in a totally unfamiliar city clutching a brief resume and scared to death to begin the search for my first real job.

i considered a few jewelry stores before realizing i needed a little break from that (my degree from uga is in jewelry and metal design- it’s true) and then i thought of craigslist. the mother of everything accessible to any slightly computer savvy recent graduate. and i dove in. matt and i figured out how much it would be nice for me to make (to help with food, shelter, and other luxuries ;) ) and i realized that i was going to either work full time retail (tempting for the discounts, of course) or i would find a well-paying part time job.

so that little rant brings us to me sitting in mcd’s last september, over 45 minutes early for my interview (i was so nervous) with a small software company looking for a part time receptionist. that’s the story of how this entirely right brained jeweler ended up in tech support triaging calls. it was a great change of pace for me and at two days a week i was available the rest of the week to set up our new home…and help launch this photography biz.

today i sat in that very mcdonalds, having gotten to work before the building was unlocked and knew it was the end. matt and i had added the numbers until excel crashed (so, what, like five minutes?! i kid. i kid.) and it was clear that i needed to devote my time to our biz rather than someone else’s. i sat and waited with the same cocktail of feelings i’d experienced just 11 months earlier: excitement, apprehension, anxiety…and a slight upset stomach- totally unrelated to emotion- more related to the fried grease on grease i’d just consumed (occasionally stress related eating just happens, no?!). so to make an unnecessarily long story short, today i gave my two weeks. it might not seem like a big deal but that little bit of steady income will no longer be a security blanket for us. we are all in baby and we couldn’t be more excited to serve you better. because really, you just can’t hold a right brain down!! :)

jessica and earl’s early morning misty engagement session is on the gallery!!

today will be scattered since i can’t really write an entire post about any one of these nougats:

*yesterday i decided to make my own v8. i boiled together tomatoes, celery, salt, pepper, sugar, worcestershire, garlic, onion, etc. -then pureed it, it’s pretty good! overall it’s easy to make your own and season to your own taste, plus you can control the quality of ingredients and it’ll be healthier. next time i think i’ll add beets, carrots and spinach too; what are you waiting for?!

*for those of you that haven’t heard (via twitter) we’re getting a trader joe’s next door! i couldn’t be happier with this choice, way to go buckhead! before the sign went up matt and i contemplated what it would be: pharmacy, exercise facility, dry cleaners, trader joes…that’s right, we guessed it! cannot even wait!

*last night we went with some great friends to see batman at the imax; as expected it was completely amazing, christian bale was flawless and i’m in love, fake love of course, sorta… (note:if you’re planning an imax experience get there an hour early. sitting on the edge, although not as bad as sitting in the front, still doesn’t scream ‘this was worth $34!’)

*monday at octane we met up with an amazing couple, laura and jason. they are high school sweethearts and so ready to get married! we really had fun getting to know them both and we’re excited that we’ll be getting to know them better over the next few months! their engagement pics will be coming soon i’m sure, and their amazing wedding at the ever so chic king plow arts center is gonna blow you away!

*in case you were wondering how hot it is in atlanta: i finished my drink on the way home from octane monday and i accidentally left it in the dash of my car. now, my car is parked in total shade (a lifesaver for sure!) but when we jumped back in the honda to head to the movies last night my little cup was melted! in the shade! what?!

talk with you later, friends! have a great wednesday!! :)

vaca’ recap!

i know you’ve all been waiting (oh so patiently!) for more of laura & matt’s beautiful wedding. i am so happy to let you know that their gallery is officially up! check it out:

we’re home! after a bit of a delay in detroit we made it back to the atl safe and sound. now that we are fatter, well rested and bronzed it is time to dive head first into catching up with our clients. it was really exciting to come home and see that even while we were gone you left us sweet comments (you know how i love comments), we really felt loved! oh also we were surprised by the number of messages we got from twitter saying we had new followers, thanks everyone! if you’re not already following us (and you have any interest in our personal lives, haha) check me out here and matt here, we’d love to be in touch! without further adieu, a few vacation shots! this first two are as close to ‘couple shots’ as we got the whole time:

we all took turns sailing or motoring around lake michigan, it’s so beautiful and clear and crisp:

we all took turns cooking and cleaning, this is a shot from my brother’s night. i’m pretty sure he’s squeezing a lemon into the green beans he’s sautéing right here. dan doesn’t even like green beans; if it had been up to him his veggie would have been potato chips, but mom insisted we give healthy a shot:

we spent a lot of time relaxing with books and i realized that reading is something i need to make more time for in my normal life. starting now. here’s my dad, leading by example :)

armed with sweatshirts and beverage we made our way to the beach to watch the sunset every night:

michigan grows the most incredible blueberries i’ve ever seen or tasted. they are sweet and juicy and the size of red grapes…big ones. we brought home two pounds which may last us a week, at best. photog nerds keep reading: matt taught me the homemade macro technique on this trip. it had always seemed like it was a lot of trouble but really you just take your 50mm, flip it around, hold open the aperture and move in and out to focus. ta-da!

well friends, i better get back to my inbox. to those of you that have emailed: thank you so much for your patience- you’ll be hearing from us soon! ahhh, it’s good to be back! ;)
