now, i didn’t immediately understand the hothlanta joke (i did after finding this wiki link on star wars), but now i love it, brilliant! regardless, we hope that you’re enjoying your snowpocalypse, snOMG, snowcation or whatever you’d like to call it- just don’t call it a state of emergency
only 4 inches?!?!… i’m pretty sure in a couple of years we’ll remember it being like 3 1/2 feet
tomorrow matt & i run our first half marathon. i’ll be honest with you, dear friends, and admit that i have not told you this sooner because i did not want your accountability in case i chickened out. ;) and i may still. we’ve been hydrating like camels for the last few days and we’ve even dropped our morning coffee and shared glass of wine with dinner (which is probably bad for my heart, right..right??) in favor of water…yumm…complements my rich fall cooking so well!!
anyway, besides our obvious food and beverage hangups, we are actually really excited. our first (and only) race together so far was a 5k in the spring and we’ve seen so much progress in our training since then. matt, being a natural, has been amazingly encouraging to me and no matter how hard of a time i give him for his matt-style motivational techniques, he is always pushing me to be better and modeling that by pushing himself as well. we’ve trained for this thing together and there is no way i’d be running this half (or probably at all) if he hadn’t figured out a way for us to stick together. he carefully plans routes where he can add extra little vignettes for himself while i can stick to the main course where he’ll shortly meet back with me to run together. he’s mastered training at his pace while also running with me at mine- i think that defies a few science laws. bottom line, he is the best.
just wanted to give a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has been so motivating! family, friends & clients have been so full of advice and encouragement- thank you so so much!
now, off we go for a big lunch at mary mac’s tea room followed a few short hours later by a pasta & gatorade dinner, wish us luck! :)
so, fall is upon us! i didn’t want to talk about this too soon and jinx the crispness right out of the air (um, STARBUCKS) because atlanta is fickle about letting go of her strangling humidity and heat. but, i hope i can finally say it’s fall. autumn. the golden months. my favorite time of year.
jut a few days ago i woke up to 50 degrees and glorious sun so after happily digging out sweats & long sleeves to walk stella with matt, i headed out to embrace fall. i quickly lost myself among the soup veggies at the farmers market and followed that with a similar black out experience on the baking aisle at the grocery store a few days later. all that really means is we ended up with TONS of fall fare before i even really considered if we could eat it all. thank goodness for our little half-freezer as it is now burgeoning with carrots, celery, parsley, basil, cabbage, green onions, beans, peas & tomatoes all chopped and ready to be thrown into a pot. we really should have a soup party and then serve lots of baked goods for dessert as my pantry is similarly stuffed with fall baking goodness. party time!
all this to say, i feel most inspired at this time of year. watching stella gallop (yup, i should post a video of this phenomenon) around the back yard invigorated by the cool air i find i can relate. matt & i have been finally getting around to some house projects we’ve avoided all summer- back yard work to prepare for our gardens in the spring, replacing some boards and repainting the front porch and we even potted some MUMS for a little color (moms everywhere applaud!). but in addition to the housework, we’re dreaming. somehow this is more of a goal setting season for us than new years and we’re coming up with a lot of ideas and goals for the next year- personal & business. so as i sit here coffee in hand, the cool breeze blows through the window beside my workspace and i’m reminded that we have a beautiful life. despite it’s kitchy-ness, we really are blessed with so much and i only hope we do the very best we can with all of it. happy fall, friends! you mean so much to us!
