today, two years ago, i married my best friend. matt is everything i could never have even imagined that i’d want in a life partner. the way he lives his own life, the way he cares for us, the clarity with which he sees the world- these are things that never made it to the list i made in middle school that started with just, ‘good sense of humor’ although, i am happy to be able to check that off too! ;)
i cooouuuuld write a long sappy post, which i will probably do in the years to come but today, since we’re photographers, and since they say a picture is worth 1000 words, i decided to go with 7000 words in the form of new header images of our little family! check it out! (for you loyal friends in reader, click out please!) we’d love to hear what you think, which image is your fave and, of course, any compliments on stella’s adorableness will be much appreciated!
when i was little i decided that i wanted to ride horses. i thought they were pretty animals, they let you pet their noses and they could run and jump with me on top- it seemed almost too good to be true! so after begging my parents they finally took me to check out a barn. in the infinite wisdom that parents seem to naturally possess, they took me on farm clean-up day which promptly stopped me right in my tracks. horses were quickly replaced by who knows what- something, at least, that didn’t involve large amounts of flies and, well, large amounts of other stuff too.
stefanie had a similar desire and coupled with her stronger will she learned to ride and took it to the next level. she’s ridden for her whole life and it couldn’t have been more perfect that we met her at her barn for their engagement pictures! tom was stuck in a little atlanta traffic so we had some time to talk to her about the barn, meet some of the horses and explore what life could have been like if i could only have ignored those flies so many years earlier! it was easy to see while listening to stefanie talk about the place, that this shoot was going to be perfect for her, and for her & tom, for many reasons!
when tom arrived we decided to get started right away since the forecast did mention rain and we wanted to enjoy the perfect weather as long as possible! little did we know that it would remain beautiful the whole time- we ended up quite lucky! the farm was full of tall grasses that reflected the warm sunlight to create an almost dream-like setting! we could have shot in just the one little spot all day but there was so much else to explore we pushed on- but not before grabbing some golden images!
the sky was really picturesque, puffy clouds against solid blue, so we decided to shoot with the sun for a few to capture it! i love this next image- stefanie is fierce!
and of course, we’re not going to pass up a green patch! light filtering through green leaves is one of my favorite things to shoot with, so vibrant!
the barn informed so much of this shoot that we wanted to make sure to capture it as well. there are plenty of times during shoots where we see something we want to photograph that helps tell the story of the shoot and we always include these images for our clients. it’s just a fun way for us to all remember the details!
just some purple flowers! being one of my favorite colors, there was no passing this up. :)
we ended, quite suitably, at a barn. the sun was a bit lower and the sky was a deeper blue, so dramatic! and let’s talk about this last image- who’s to say you shouldn’t use a little flare to your advantage!? i like it.
stefanie & tom, thank you so much for taking us to the farm to spend the afternoon! it was not only an awesome location but the perfect location for you guys! we are so excited for your wedding next year and in the meantime, let’s not forget to share tips on housing renovation projects! :)
beth & lawton have been together the entire time i’ve known them which, i guess, is coming up on 5 years now! they are an awesome couple, passionate about one another and also about the rest of the world. they’ve served their peers side by side since the day i met them and i’ve yet to run across another couple so selfless. when we met up with them to shoot we knew they would create unique images full of life, love and, we guessed, lots of laughter as well! bottom line, they blew us away. we shot for waaaay longer than we usually do, exploring every inch of piedmont park and utilizing every little bit of beauty we found in the landscape. and we had nothing to worry about because everywhere we stopped beth & lawton infused their contagiously fun personalities into the images! we laughed with them and did our best to create images that highlighted their deep friendship and love; we are so grateful they chose us to capture this time in their lives!
first up, a little goofing off just as we started! beth and lawton are one of those rockin couples you’ve heard about who play together; they’re both very athletic and i know their future will be full of friendly competition!
i love how beth didn’t even hesitate when matt mentioned this next shot; really, she seems to be totally happy anywhere as long as lawton is there to laugh with her!
right on the edge of the park was this old metal building and we spent lots of time there enjoying it as a backdrop!
but we can’t resist the lush greens of the park! we jumped back over when the sun got lower:
there are so many reasons we left this shoot smiling and one of them was this next set of images. after discovering lawton didn’t think he could pull off the cartwheel she suggested, beth proceeded to show him how! the resulting images make me smile:
with a couple as ready for fun and games as beth & lawton there was NO skipping the bright colors of the playground!
we finished up with a few shots with the skyline. classic atlanta!
beth & lawton, we are so happy to be working with you guys! your shoot was such a blast, we know the wedding will be even more awesome and we’re excited we’ll be there front and center (crouched, haha) watching it all happen! you guys rock!
