season of love

By | Personal | No Comments

when i was younger my parents gave me a tape (yup, a casette tape.) that had a song on it about me. at least, this is what i was told. i don’t really remember much about it except one line of the lyrics- the line that my parents still repeat to me to this day- ‘good things come in little packages!’ not sure if my short stature was really a source of pride for me at that age but my parents sure tried hard to make it so! i was a blessed little girl.

for me that phrase still rings through my head from time to time- especially as the holidays approach. it helps me remember that little things can make the biggest difference. there is so much need all around me yet i am often so deeply involved in my own life that i don’t notice. this fall i’m making a point to keep my chin up and my eyes open- not that my eyes are usually closed, just open open, ya know? i want to see when i can help, when someone needs encouragement or a smile or a hello. life is so simple and basic but somehow i always still come up with a way to complicate it and get stressed- not this year! i guess all i’m trying to say is that even though i may not be able to grab the cereal you’re reaching for off the top shelf, i still want to help, so maybe a boost? let’s just all go out and love people. i want to quit saying, ‘let me know if i can help,’ and just figure out a way to help- and do it. but first, i better change out of my work-from-home clothes (mis-matched pajamas, obviously.) because a big smile from me at the moment would totally freak you out. here’s to a season of thankfulness and kindness!

and just to get things started, i’m sharing my (super secret) spiced tea recipe. add more ginger if you love it and concoct delicious variations by adding orange zest or vanilla- apples would probably be great as well. thick almond milk is a most excellent addition instead of cream. (also, matt just pointed out that this image is the color palette of our house- SO. ON. BRAND! ;))

now, take a sip of fall comfort and enjoy the season! :)

margaret & adam are engaged!

one of the most fascinating things about our job is hearing how so many different relationships began. some couples immediately start laughing and relate a hilarious story of awkward beginnings, some share a fairy-tale story of love at first sight and for many, their story is somewhere in the middle. but only once has someone looked straight into my eyes and said, ‘well, he almost hit me with his car.’ actually, what margaret said was beautifully poetic and sharply witty but the bottom line was, adam did almost hit her with his car. ;) they officially met later that night after margaret found herself at a concert where adam’s band was performing and the rest is history. adam is a multitalented musician and a producer and margaret is an incredibly gifted writer as well as a doula. so basically, they’re the most interesting couple in the world. i’ve known margaret since we were 15 year old budding artists/nerds and it has been incredible to keep up with all of her accomplishments over the last few years. so much about our lives has changed since we first met but margaret has never wavered in her passion, fire and intense love for those around her. it was awesome to spend the afternoon with margaret & adam and get to know who they are as a couple- all of their moments are just beautiful. we’re so looking forward to their wedding!

so glad adam’s sweet orange javelin made a cameo!

my favorite:

mmt & adam, thank you both so much for allowing us to capture you in your element- we had a great time! can’t wait for the wedding!

kelly & andrew are married!

kelly & andrew met in high school- their first date was in 2001! what started as a fun little crush (on kelly’s side) and complete cluelessness (on andrew’s side) turned into an 11 year dating relationship that flourished even as they lived across the country (and at times across the world!) from one another. but, if you’ve seen kelly & andrew together, you immediatly know you’re witnessing something special. their openness and obvious love for one another is inspiring to see and their deep friendship and shared history makes them so comfortable and relaxed around each other. kelly & andrew are the kind of people who, after spending just one evening with them, make you feel like you’re part of the same story. we knew going into their wedding day that it would be special, different somehow, from what we usually can expect or anticipate. we’d looked over their schedule, we knew there’d be all the usual events, but we also knew kelly & andrew- and to us that meant we could expect a lot more. :) the party was big and awesome and we had a great time capturing everything from their sweet private dinner to the crazy dance party complete with lots of tambourines (kelly’s favorite!). they just don’t miss one moment of fun- every second was bursting with happiness and energy and love.

andrew, knowing that kelly had been looking for a pair of emerald earrings and knowing that she had yet to find any she liked, surprised her with the most perfect pair. she was so touched that he’d found them and so excited that she wore them all day!

kelly & andrew decided ahead of time that they didn’t want to see one another before the ceremony but andrew, unbeknownst to kelly, figured out a way that he could at least give her a kiss before she walked down the aisle. the moment was quick and sweet, and i love that his mom helped him prepare. :)

i love this private, quiet moment just after the ceremony:

andrew called kelly up to the stage and gave her a big box containing his and her’s tambourines- that’s true love! :)

kelly & andrew, congratulations! we are so so happy for you two and we wish you the very best. thank you so much for letting us into your world to capture such a special day!
