sydney & richard are married!

sunday brunch is a pretty sacred meal for us. since saturday brunch is often out of the question, our weekend brunching happens on sundays and we relish the patio sitting, bloody mary sipping and biscuits with jam munching. but with sydney & richard living out of state we decided to open our sunday brunch slot to meet them- turns out, this was the perfect decision! somehow, these two understand and appreciate the art of weekend brunching just as much as we do- in fact, they had already had a big sunday meal and met us just a couple of hours later for another- that is commitment i appreciate. needless to say, we love these two and enjoyed getting to know them. they are fun and down to earth, brimming with happiness and obvious love for one another and those around them. matt was the lucky one to photograph their beautiful wedding day at one of our favorite venues- the farm at old edward’s inn– have i mentioned before how much we love the mountains of north carolina? ;)

sydney & richard’s first look was sweet and a touch emotional for the couple- as well as the bridesmaids watching (swooning) quietly from the balcony. usually, we keep the first look pretty private but for sydney & richard it was perfect to include some of their very favorite people:

i love the series of photos that matt captured when sydney’s dad saw her for the first time- definitely click through to their photocart for more from this moment!

sydney & richard, congratulations!! we are so happy for you two. thank you so so much for having matt there to capture such a beautiful celebration!

Kayla & Davis’ Wedding in the Highlands, NC

Anyone I’ve talked with for more than 5 minutes knows how much I love our neighborhood and the community here. I feel like it’s our little pocket of Atlanta- walking distance to our favorite ice cream shop, excellent coffee, good eats and drinks, a sweet farmer’s market and, above all, filled to the brim with awesome people that we love- like Kayla & Davis. We pass their house almost daily on our walks, we chat at the neighborhood dog park, we say hi as we pass on evening jogs- we’re part of the same little community and we love it. We also happen to share a love for the NC mountains so when they told me they were planning their wedding at the Bascom, an art museum in Highlands NC, I was pumped!

Since I’m still in the fog of having a new baby (Evy was 9 days old when I shot this wedding!), looking back at all of the beautiful images helped me remember how important it is to capture the story of the wedding day- not just stunning images. While preparing this blog post, I really feel I’m celebrating their marriage all over again!

Kayla is a vibrant, thoughtful, down to earth person- it makes perfect sense that she has delightful, beautiful friends. Their natural, easy smiles throughout the day radiated their love of Kayla and their happiness for her- and I love the mix of those dresses:

Davis’ mom seeing Kayla for the first time, so sweet. I love these honest moments.

First look in the woods, yesss!

And THIS is why we love the mountains of NC so so much! Just stunning scenery around every bend, hidden streams, glistening greens, filtered light- I could go on forever. On Kayla & Davis’ wedding day, a light rain was falling, but in the woods under the old, broad trees, it was relatively dry. So thankful they were up for a little adventure because these images are some of my favorites, ever. I just feel like they capture the feeling of the woods I love so well.

So glad to see Norman was in the front row at their wedding! Pups are a big part of life- if they can be present, they should be. (plus, who can pass this face and not relax and smile?)

My laptop’s new wallpaper- a misty forest in early evening:

rhonda & chris are engaged!

when we met rhonda & chris for delicious pizza at one of our mutual favorite spots, they were excited to go ahead and get their engagement session on the calendar. their enthusiasm is contagious and within just a couple of days we’d emailed several times and settled on the perfect date, time and location. as rhonda & chris’s shoot date approached, all we saw was rain. the whole week of their shoot was covered in little clouds and raindrops on my weather channel app (what? too nerdy?). we were actually so sure it was going to rain out that we’d already scheduled their backup shoot date. but at the very last minute, a tiny hint of warm sun made the decision. the clouds turned the sky a solid gray until- right at sunset- the sun blazed golden for just long enough to bathe the final images in a magical glow. as you can probably tell, at this point i hadn’t seen the sun in days, so my view of it was quite romantic. ;) but honestly, these images are completely lit up by rhonda & chris. their smiles are brilliant and they’re so happy together that, rain or shine, this would have been a sunny shoot. :)

rhonda & chris, we’re looking forward to your wedding- it’s going to be a beautiful day! :)
