amy & chad are engaged!

my first trip ever to chipotle was our first time meeting amy and chad, what an all around awesome day! over quite excellent gourmet burritos (their words, not mine, although i do agree :) ) we chatted about how they met, their upcoming wedding (and corresponding killer reception), and life in general. we immediately liked amy and chad.

it was great to reconnect with them on tuesday for their engagement shoot! since they are super braves fans (like, multiple.games.a.week kind of fans!) chad had the fabulous idea of shooting their pics at a game! of course we were up for it, it was a little different, great company and braves baseball – perfect!

we decided to grab a few ‘green’ shots for amy before heading to the stadium:

i really love noticing the way each couple we shoot holds hands. it is always so sweet and uniquely ‘them’ we make sure to get a shot of it each session we do!

we were racing the rain at the park, the skies were darkening and we knew our time was short!

once at the game, matt and i switched gears and shot more like we shoot a wedding – capturing the whole story and very selectively offering suggestions. we also put down the cameras and spent a few innings chatting with amy and chad and cheering for the braves; what a great night!

the bottom did finally drop out of the sky and it rained like crazy! luckily, it didn’t last long and when we emerged from our cover the sky looked like this:

the game finally started and we took our (quite excellent, thanks chad!!) seats. this picture is from the second inning when we were tied with the mets; we pulled it out but it was a little nail-biting for a while!

we headed up to the top of the stadium to take some shots right before we left and though it was dark, we had some crazy stadium lights to work with!

our favorite shot we took in front of the skyline happens to barely include the skyline, oh well! :)

i know chad’s fingers were crossed the whole time that the stadium would work out (since it was his idea after all :) ) and i have to say, chad, good call!

amy and chad, thank you guys for such a great evening! it was awesome getting to know you two better and you couldn’t have picked a more perfect setting in which to do that ;) ! we are so looking forward to the wedding and meeting noah too!

bonnie & david are married!

we fell in love with bonnie and david during their engagement shoot. their energy and creativity blew us away and though we didn’t think it was possible, their wedding still blew us away (even further? :)). it was amazing!! every detail was meticulously planned by the unendingly creative bride and her equally fabulous mom (you just wait!) and really, i couldn’t get enough it! whew, i’ll take a breath and start at the beginning…

the lovely ladies started their day off right – with laughter and presents and a big breakfast at early girl eatery in downtown asheville, nc.

bonnie’s dad surprised everyone with his wedding gift the day before – he handed david the keys to his dream – a big diesel truck for him to convert to biodiesel. (sidenote: bonnie and david live an impressively green lifestyle, you’ll see more of this later!) when we arrived we got the short version of the story before the guys piled into the truck and headed up the blue ridge parkway for a small hike and a (freezing cold) swim.

meanwhile, the ladies walked from breakfast over to the salon for styling and took turns ooohing and aaahing over bonnie’s perfect birdcage veil, crafted by her mom (of course) and studded with a perfectly sewn satin flower and a few feathers. oh, this is just the beginning!!

while i was steeped in bobbie pins and hairspray and loving it, matt was 100% in his element with the guys. when i met matt his reputation consisted of simply ‘he’s crazy,‘ so when i saw the pictures he took of the guys, it was definitely a throwback!

i mentioned earlier that bonnie’s birdcage veil was only the beginning of her mom’s brilliance, here is a sneak peek into the rest:

bon’s mom is an unbelievable seamstress, which means bonnie’s dress shopping consisted of cutting a picture of her favorite dress out of a bridal magazine and material shopping with her mom, how awesome! there are no words for how perfect her dress was. it fit her amazingly and honestly just the slip under the dress was beautiful enough to stand alone as a wedding gown. a piece of lace from her mom’s own hand-sewn wedding dress was stitched into the slip, a perfect detail with incredible meaning. as bonnie’s mom and future mother in law helped her into her breathtaking dress i couldn’t help the lump in my throat, or the subsequent watery eyes…

switching back to the gentlemen – how fabulous are these ’bouts?! bonnie worked with the incredible janet of enchanted florist and together they traded traditional flowers for herbs, twigs, berries, feathers, and seed pods, the result was totally amazing and totally ‘her.’

onto the ceremony at the beautiful crest center! (don’t miss her adorable shoes, she and all her ladies wore leaf green heels, perfect with the theme and absolutely re-wearable!)

this next picture makes me so happy, just look at those smiles! congrats guys!!

time for celebration! i love this first dance shot, what a good lookin’ couple!

bonnie and david are great dancers, they had such a great time tearing it up together:

an irresistible shot of those green shoes ;)

one of bonnie’s bridesmaids worked it out with the band to sing a song to the newlyweds, it was such a sweet moment:

and they are off to riviera maya!

bonnie and david, you guys are so perfect together. the way you talk to each other and smile at each other is impossible to overlook, you’re love is so apparent! i hope you are having an amazing and relaxing honeymoon; thank you so much for choosing us to be part of such an incredible day!

what’s happened to us!?

hello faithful friends, i must apologize for our serious lack of posting lately!  once last week, seriously kate?? ugh, embarrassing – especially since (maybe unbeknownst to you, but still) i have a personal goal of blogging 2 – 3 times a week!

i have to catch you up!  let’s start with – matt’s last day at his ad agency is tomorrow!  yikes/yeay!  i’m pretty excited about having him to myself from now on but it also means we’ll be taking on a crazy amount of work, good thing we love taking pictures, like, tons of them!  we celebrated his retirement when he gave his two weeks – by purchasing matt’s first pair of flip flops, it was only fitting ;)

today i experienced a rare joy.  i finished off our frosted mini wheats.  some of you are already celebrating alongside me because you’ve enjoyed this yourself.  for those of you who haven’t experienced the sweet crumbled end of this particular cereal, i highly recommend it.  actually, next time i buy it i’ll just shake it up a little and maybe at the end of the box i’ll enjoy two bowls of dusty sugary goodness!?

as of last night, we’re officially a one car couple.  we’ve been looking forward to this for a while, maybe it seems a strange thing to be excited about – what do you expect of us? maybe it comes together better for you when i mention that we sold a gas guzzling jeep grand cherokee?  we’ll miss it for sure, but with both of us working from home and working together on the weekends, it was a little tough to justify keeping that big white beast. adieu!

we squeezed in a couple of dates to see two bands that have been in our top ten for quite some time now, iron & wine and radiohead!  two totally different shows, two totally rad nights!!

ah, i cannot believe i haven’t told you, we incorporated!  we are now altmix photography, inc.  woah, right? official! :)

tonight i made a fab chicken soup because we’ve both been a bit sick.  i was really excited to serve it when matt walked in the door and informed me we might as well eat plain bread because he couldn’t taste a thing.  as we ate our soup i tried to imagine what it must be like for matt to eat it and not taste it.  i grossed myself out so much focusing on the textures i almost couldn’t finish my own…

side note: clearly matt’s meds are making him delirious.  right now, he’s taking a break from editing to dance (in his own unique style) to air in our living room.  it is definitely for my entertainment, but still, like i said, delirious. ;)

sorry for the random nature of this post, there’s a lot to be done with our business, but one of my favorite parts is meeting people through this blog and chronicling the adventure that is our crazy life.  i, kate altmix, solemnly swear to post at least 2 – 3 times a week, from now on, even though it’s wedding season, and even though i’m a little congested, and …

love you guys! talk with you soon!  :)
