tiffani & michael are engaged!

By | Engagement Sessions | No Comments

in the few months we have known tiffani & michael they have moved from the beautiful beaches of hawaii to spend a season in ohio before settling into the charming town of galveston, texas. what a whirlwind of a year they’ve had! can you even imagine it? now, can you imagine it WHILE PLANNING A WEDDING? yea, they are incredible. about half way through all of these moves tiffani & michael found themselves in atlanta for a wedding that we were shooting so we had the good fortune of meeting them, in person, at last. and that explained everything. tiffani & michael are the kind of people that totally have the energy and optimism to make the best of everything. they are always smiling and just overflowing with sweetness and happiness. i’m sure they have made lasting friends all over the country and no doubt their wedding will be an awesome time of reunion! but first, their engagement pictures! we were so glad they carved out some time from their busy schedule to fly to atlanta to take these images- it was so wonderful to spend the afternoon with such an interesting and fun-loving couple!

it was super windy during their shoot. i was a complete mess by the end of it- seriously, i found leaves in my hair. and, yet, somehow tiffani stayed stunning and so well put together! she makes wind look so good:

SO beautiful:

my favorite! i love how sweetly they are cuddling together in the little bit of warming sunlight left just before the sun dipped below the horizon. the light is so soft and the shadows are such a beautiful shade of blue and tiffani & michael are just perfect together:

tiffani & michael, thank you guys so much for making the trip to atlanta! we are so glad we got to spend time with you guys and we look forward to your wedding! :)

sarah & jonathan are married!

over the past few years that we’ve been in business matt and i have slowly adapted to planning everything in life about a year in advance. special occasion weekends are permanently blacked out and we are always googling weekend festivals and events we want to attend only to find out that they haven’t even set a date yet! planning so far in advance works for most things but every once in a while we find ourselves looking at a blocked off date with a decision to make. luckily, in this case, that decision was a BREEZE. so, instead of running the grueling publix georgia half marathon we had on the calender, we very quickly changed that to shooting sarah & jonathan’s wedding celebration. so for that, and many other reasons, i love them. :)

people often ask us about our favorite weddings and we always give the same answer- the best weddings are the ones where people have the time of their lives- dancing, laughing and enjoying every single second of the day. from now on we may just send them the link to sarah & jonathan’s wedding. seriously, it was so awesome. sarah & jonathan are so blessed to have such deep, beautiful relationships with their friends and families and also for their friends and families to be so close to one another! capturing the love and unity around us was almost overwhelming! in such a good way. ;) everyone laughed from the depths of their bellies and big tears were always accompanied by even bigger grins. there was an almost tangible excitement that ran through their wedding day; from beginning to end it was an honor to be there to capture it.

matt’s first stop of the day was one of our favorite spots in atlanta, brick store. jonathan and a few of his groomsmen spent the first part of his wedding day just as any good beer-company-in-planning executive should.

meanwhile the ladies were laughing and awwing as they asked sarah to recount her engagement story. from there they reminisced about all that led them to where they were that day and there were sweet hugs and smiles and more laughter and not even a hint of anxiety among them!

sarah & jonathan decided to see one another before their ceremony so we could take our time with couple portraits, yess!

sarah & jonathan chose to get married at the same church where her parents were married which is just so meaningful! when we arrived at the church after couple portraits, sarah’s mom pulled us aside and showed us this perfect little room where she had one of her own wedding portraits taken. sarah & jonathan were up for a few more and we are so so glad! these are some of our favorite images from their day!

sarah & jonathan’s reception at the old decatur courthouse started on a high and stayed there. their first dance song was brilliantly performed by a couple of their close friends and after the cheering from that moment died down jonathan’s masterfully created playlist began. and continued. all night. it was fabulous.

sarah & jonathan brought some props to pass around once the dancing really got started- GREAT idea! everyone loved it:

sarah & jonathan, thanks so so much for allowing us to be part of such a wonderful day! we are SO excited for you guys and we hope to hang out soon and hear about your st. john getaway!

spring twilight

By | Personal | 6 Comments

’tis the season for early morning yardsales, brunch on a patio and afternoons on the back deck, cocktail in hand, enjoying the honey sweet breeze and golden sunlight. this is the time of year when all things are new and my outlook can’t help but reflect that. i want to try new things, visit new places and learn something completely unexpected. i want my photography to grow. i want my images to be more elevated, singular and imaginative. clearly, spring has gotten to me!

back to where i started- spring is such a beautiful time to sit back and love the world around us. lucky for us, we recently seeded our yard which means a few weeks of twilight watering. which REALLY means chatting in the back yard swing while moving our little sprinkler six times so that it waters every corner of the yard. so, for around an hour, we’re pulled out of our little world of email, podcasts and editing and we just sit and watch the sparkling water fall around us. we talk about everything, or sometimes nothing. it’s such a great time for us- we may just stick to it even when the grass starts to grow!

lately, some nights, just before swing/sprinkler time, i make us a cocktail. i am hardly a recipe follower so usually i just combine what i like and hope for the best. then, i split it and add a little more sugar to matt’s and a little more bitterness to mine and we just sit and sip. on a really good night i’ll take down a little snack too but, honestly, i think that’s only happened once so far. ;) anyway, because a post is always better with a picture (and a recipe?), here is my latest favorite, let’s call it a rosemary old fashioned soda?

the recipe:
2 oz bourbon
2 dashes bitters
1 oz rosemary simple syrup
(1c sugar, 1c water, 2 sprigs rosemary, crushed, simmer, let cool)
1/2 of a caramelized lemon, juiced
(place lemon in a pan cut side down, cook at medium until warmed through & browned, let cool)
3 cherries
orange peel
rosemary sprig
soda
fill a tall glass with ice. throw in first 7 ingredients and swirl. top with soda. go sit outside. ;)

do you have a favorite back porch beverage? i’d love to hear about it! happy spring! :)
